2012 panigale 1199S tricolore with likely BBS failure. Bike has racing evo tune, DDA+ and electronic suspension. Can I just replace the BBS or does it require dealer/diagnostic software for programming? I see some used for sale as well or could do new.

I went ahead and got the superceded part number. In my case it was 38510152A. Took a week to get it. It worked after doing gear learn procedure.

1) remove negative from battery.

2) remove key housing area.

3) remove seat

4) remove rear fuel tank bracket

5) support tank to make room for hands

6) remove BBS connector and fuel pump connections

7) swap BBS out

8) reconnect everything and used dielectric grease

9) perform gear learn procedure ( which in my case seemed to only be the learning and not the clearing part.

Will report back shortly to make sure this fixed the issues of screen looking blank of values, blinking tail/turn signal and can line error.

There is a synchronization involved between your old BBS and new BBS but I’m not sure what all it does. In my case the only noticeable difference was no mileage and I didn’t care so I never got it synced.

There is a procedure you can do to restore the mileage. On the V4, IIRC, it’s stored on the BBS and dash or ECU. You can check the individual values and chose to write the highest value to the other components. You can’t lower the value. Normally they’d all be the same and the VIN is written to each.

Does your dash show zero miles?

My dash showed correct mileage and all settings other than date/ time. I think BBS on 1199 handles turn signals, ABS, electronic suspension and traction control. Basically non engine peripheral communication outside of dash?

I used the superceded part number. Looks to be a different manufacturer based on the sticker. Hopefully, that resolves whatever was commonly failing.

My mileage is working. I think the only thing i haven't tried is the DDA+. My old lap times in the dash menu was there but that doesn't use the USB stick. I'll try it at some point but I don't usually use it for weekend rides.

So, as far as I can tell dealer tools not required for BBS replacement for 2012 1199S tricolore. Should be same for all 1199 versions? Maybe the R is different so not going to speak on that.
