I just KNOW I'm going to regret asking this but apart from a gorgeous paint scheme, GPS datalogger and termi slip-ons, what is the difference between an S and a Tricolore?

I was going for a Tri then started to think how much I could personalize an S with the substantial difference in prices between the two. I can pick up a lightly used S for $20K and could do a lot to it with the $8K price differential....

I got a Tri and love it!!
That said your line of thinking is pretty solid.
You'd get an awesome bike for 20k and have a lot of change left over to do what you wanted to it.
Which is exactly what you said :)
I do love the Tri Colore paint scheme though.
Sometimes I walk by it in the garage and just stop and look at it.

Limited production (mid 2013) ABS standard and its a 4k difference

You're comparing used vs. new, which will always skew it alot more. Although your thinking is sound.

In my case, NEW the difference is only 4k. 2k of that is the slip ons, GPS is 600. So it's only a 1500 premium for a gorgeous paint scheme, that also stated, is a limited run.

Cool - thanks for the feedback guys.

Only thing putting me off the Tri are the wheels. I'm not a fan of the chicken feet design. Maybe I'll get a set of PVM's and try to recoup some of the cost by selling the originals...

These in gold. Mmmmm

PVM: forged 5-spoke wheel

Sexy for sure. Remember the S comes with the same chicken feet wheels, so that shouldn't throw your decision too much if you intend to swap 'em.

Thats my point. I think I'd rather have an S with these rims than a Tri with the chicken feet.

.....but I do loooooove the Tri's paint scheme. Decisions, decisions.

Who knows - maybe I should try and find a lightly used Tri and swap out the rims. Actually, that sounds more feasible the more I think of it.......

If you lived near I'd sell you mine.

Well I'm in the market as of 2013 (hence all the research on here), just gotta finish up my work here in Sydney, Australia and head back home to the US for Xmas.

I had a similar line of thinking, but I was choosing between a Base and S. I know that I am not a hard core canyon, track guy so I thought I would get a Base and personalize it with the difference........so far so good and feel great about the purchase and love the bike!

Purchase: $15,600

Termi slip on $1,800
Sport Seat $250
Rear fender eliminator $150
DP carbon front fender $300
DP rear pegs $200
Rizoma Resovours (next purchase) $500
Passport Escort 8500 plus $800
Custom paint job $tbd

After having a number of PM's with various Tri owners, I think I'm going to try and make my budget stretch enough so I can afford a lightly used Tri and use the money saved over new to purchase those DAMN sexy PVM rims. I like the fact that I'll still have a limited edition run bike but with some personal touches..
While I do love to do track days AND actually live in the canyons (yup, for that very reason), my Italian motorcycles I consider as works of art that I occasionally get to ride. Track abuse and commuting are what my jap bikes are for. My MV and soon to be acquired Tri are for me to look at (mostly) and enjoy owning.

What can I say? Some people buy art.. I buy motorcycles (Unlike me, some people can afford both LOL)

you can throw some Ohlins Suspension and Forks and some forge magnesium wheels and have a better performing bike than the S and still come out cheaper.;)
