Beat the Heat with CF Sub Frame covers by Shift-tech.

Help Support Ducati Forum:

eventually i figured it out and fit perfectly. took it for a test ride yesterday and it seems to have made a difference with heat output on my thighs. however it was cold out (50 degrees) so i couldnt get a fair assesment. i still strongly believe that the 2 screws on that heatshield are whats really burning peoples legs..

Look, superleggera subframe :)

Just kidding.

Matt finish CF cover.

Thanks Peter Lieb from LiebSpeed.eu

Thats bad ass. Whats the grip wrapped around the bottom of the tank ? I can't make out the name on it, is that Stompgrip also ?

That is the bottom part of my brother's CBR600RR stompgrip (it came in 2 parts, and he only installed the big clear part on the tank).
Works well without ruining the tank look, but I still use my stock rearsets. Not sure how it will be once the pegs are raised.

The carbon shield is quite effective if you are touching the subframe with your legs. Ask ....-Tech :) for you americans. He also has glossy option too.
Particularly Californian who rides with shorts (you guys are nuts....).

Wish there was a UK supplier, I would buy them tomorrow. Can't justify the price + Import Tax + Shipping. I'll stick to my homemade ones for now :-(

The subframe covers are made by Lieb Speed in Germany. Guido is their US distributor. You can purchase them direct (since you are in the UK) from Lieb Speed. You'll pay German VAT plus postage. The Conquest covers are not the same product, just the inlay panels on the subframe. What's more, though they claim it's pre-preg, it is most definitely not. It's wet lay, which is,heavier and cheaper to produce. Ultimately you get what you pay for. Peter Lieb's products are second to none, closely followed by CDT. If you want to see some examples, have a look on my website: Project 1199 SPS - Home Page.

The subframe covers can be purchased along with the adhesive kit, which again is available diect from Lieb Speed. I don't suppose Guido will mind me sharing this info, since it would still makes sense for US buyers to go direct to Shift Tech and Guido knows his stuff when it comes to all things carbon fibre. There is an awful lot of CF on the market that purports to be pre-preg that simply isn't. The price is one tell tale sign as it is much more labour intensive to produce than wet lay, and significantly lighter. I know of a dozen or more suppliers who claim their products are pre-preg, when they simply are not. If you are prepared to pay for the good stuff, then stick with CDT or Lieb Speed. In the case of the latter, there really is nothing else that comes even remotely close to the quality, both in terms of fit and finish and the precision. Even CDT struggles in my view to match it.

can anyone comment on the size of the two screws pictured here? i was reading on another members thread that these two metal screws are in fact the cause for a significant amount of heat on the thigh area.

I had my heat shield removed because those two screws burn me a lot more than the heat from the engine without the shield.

Received the subframe covers from Lieb today, it didn't come with instructions I was later emailed a German set but it's not clear how these are fitted - I don't wanna get this wrong.

Can anyone help with English instructions?

Is the glue good to go out of the syringe, no mixing? The picture I was sent looks as if the covers are glued away from the bike on another piece, is that correct or is it a case of stick metallic paper on inside of cf cover add glue then stick to subframe?

I pick my bike up this weekend so only have pictures to go by until then
Thanks

Hello,

did you figure out the installation on the subframe covers? I would like to know how you did it. Thanks.
