Bike Settings?

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I made my "WET" settings my street settings, and I use DTC 4, ABS 3, and stock suspension settings. I always use EBC 3, as I've always found the bike too tail happy under braking with any more engine braking.

My Sport and Race settings are track settings, with DTC 2 and 1 respectively (with slicks). I keep ABS 2 for Sport and ABS 1 for Race. ABS 1 takes away your rear ABS. Much of the time I prefer to have the rear ABS because when I overcook things, it will save your butt. At some skill level above mine, you could hang the rear out reliably under braking, but for regular people, better off keeping it on. For suspension settings, I was getting bad tire wear with the stock settings. Firming up the rear to 5 Compression and 7 rebound made things better with less tire wear and more grip.

EBC set to off.
I now run with the engine power mode set to 195 HI.
I've recently settled on the above settings in order to improve the smoothness of the bike.

DTC set to 3.
Or what ever is the least intrusive for you.
I would recommend just keep moving the DTC up another level from the default settings until you get to where you are happy with it, as you get more comfortable with how hard you want to push it on your roads.

Suspension settings in sport mode are the same as default wet settings(we have rough patchy roads).

I only use one set of settings.

Power: 195 Hi
ABS: 4
DTC: 3
EBC: 3

I won't post suspension settings because you are not me, so they're irrelevant.

Mode: Sport 195Lo
DTC: 4
EBC: 3
ABS: (There isn't any. We don't need no stinkin' ABS :) )

Did EBC off and 195 Hi work for you? I have the same problem.

Yep, I've found it to be the best so far.

Initially I had settled on the EBC set at 3, and have left it at that until recently.
After switching EBC off, the situation was much improved.

In combination with the engine mode in 195 HI, I can ride it smoother.
It's especially good when riding aggressively.

Just play around with it and see what works best.
I think there is a general move to these settings for the EBC and engine power mode, as we all become more familiar with the 1199 and share our experiences;)

I'll say this:

-- after a bunch of miles, basically since new, I set EBC to 3 (least intrusive)(Race-Hi)it was an improvement over setting 1 or 2...but the ridiculous amount of surging when riding easily (in any sort of traffic, or just mildly where 3 to 5k rpms were needed) was driving me crazy....I just felt the trade off of using electronics made this necessary - I was wrong - turning EBC off is the best answer to cure the surging, it cleared it up 100%

-- however, when the pace picks up, EBC set to 3 seems (to me at least) (as opposed to Brads thoughts) the better choice, it has just enough clutch slip and just a tad less engine braking to help keep things smooth - with EBC off, the engine braking is in fact way too much, (as if coming to a stop) and feels "in the way" of getting things smooth... but being able to turn it on/off is simple enough...

-- that's just my .02 for the moment.....1 thing for sure, the surging issue disappears with it EBC off (thank you!)

Thanks for the info. What do you have your suspension settings at? I weigh 155. Anyone in that range?

-- i'm heavier, so my numbers are not meaningful to you

-- suspension settings are so subjective, always a compromise and reliant on how an individual rides

-- if you want someplace to start, be sure to have the sag adjusted correctly first

-- paying the $50 trackside or at your shop may be worth the initial set-up for sag but certainly doable at home -- compression and rebound you'll want to use to get the bike to feel better for you, and only you will say what you want to do after you've ridden it enough -- middle of the scale is the best place to start

-- if you are tracking the bike versus street riding there will be differences in sag (generally track settings will be to the stiffer side of the setting, as well as rebound and compression settings)

-- for street riding...if you prefer the tighter feel, setting your rebound and compression to start, in the middle of the scale, is a good place to start - moving up or down the scale "gently" (1 2 or 3 clicks/numbers at a time) not 5 or 6 -- 1 thing to remember/keep in mind...is that as you approach the end of the scale of numbers in either direction 1 number setting will make a bigger difference than in the middle of the scale

-- there are a number of you tube videos by dave moss to get you familiar (if you need it)....not sure if there is anything ducati specific, but it might be worth the search

You are exactly right about turning EBC off making the bike smoother. I have a 2015 1299, and it used to be jerky going through corners and would feel like it was going to stall between 4300 to 4600 rpm. I turned EBC off, and the bike is very smooth. You really don't get a lot of engine braking with it off.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with EBC set to OFF should in fact give you Maximum Engine Braking......EBC set to 3 gives you the least intrusive engine braking 1 the most - Off would be maximum engine braking

never thought of turning EBC off, i was on track last Sat, a few big fish tails while braking and downshifting. Will try EBC off next time out

on downshifting, do you blip? feather the clutch? or just let the slipper do all the work?

All of the above?

here, as i thought:
The system allows the rider to select among various settings, from a maximum engine brake with system set to OFF to a decreasing level of engine brake at increasing level number.

-- with the large pistons of the 11/1299, engine braking, if off, gets a bit hairy..i don't understand how the above posts refer to it as being smoother....as it aggressively plants the engine down as if you are a boat in water shutting off the engine - setting 3, being the least intrusive seems the be the most controllable....i would think on the track Off would be "interesting"

Weird, with EBC off it's maximum engine braking which in theory should be old school rear wheel trying to lock if you dont blip and match the revs properly. I guess slipper clutch will stop anything too drastic mind?

I've never even considered turning it off altogether so can't comment from experience. I run the 1199S on EBC 3 and the R on EBC 2 since it has less engine breaking anyhow with the light weight internals.
