Easy question:

Should I trade in my 2012 1199 and my 2013 Tiger 800 for a Multistrada?

The Multi is both of my bikes in one and I often think it will be nice to have only one motorcycle. I do need the backseat as my wife likes to go with me a lot, which is really the only reason I bought the Tiger at all.

I own both the bikes outright and I would not pay any extra money. The only thing keeping me from doing it is the loss in value of my two bikes, of course. When I ride them, I can't tell they are worth less. When I trade them in, I can tell quite clearly!

Is the Multi even that good of a bike that I should do this?

No way. Sell your tiger and buy a used multi. I have seen them sell for around $10K in nice condition.

I've ridden a Multistrada and it's a nice bike….if you like that sort of thing. I personally don't like sitting up that high, and I think they are a bit ugly, but those are both subjective. The bike runs well and handles well. I was surprised that the engine is just as temperamental up to about 3500 rpm as the Panigale is. I don't get that.

I have thought I would like the 1199 motor in the Tiger and it would be awesome. I ride 6 or 7 10ths, not 10/10ths anymore, but I still like to pull the occasional wheelie and its more fun to bring my wife and go "exploring."

I want the DSS and updated engine. There are no Multis around here for that price.

What I am getting on trade actually seems pretty fair, even though I could sell them and make a couple grand more, a couple grand doesn't mean a lot to me in the long run, with time considerations of listing and selling the bikes.

The main issue is he wants to do the deal on a Touring and I want a Pikes Peak....

If you do..get the pike's peak version! Also youtube Shane Burns…I believe there is a video of him tracking the Multi against a bunch of boys on 1098s an such….he kicks their ..... which shows it is a capable bike.

Flip side, the bike is not pretty. It hides it's weight, but is heavy. I never met a girl that wanted a ride on one. I rather buy a Hypermotard SP and save 10K.

Just my thoughts.

The Pikes Peak is supposed to be a great bike and it sounds like it will suit your needs and if you are happy with the trade in I would say go for it.

Buy a Multi. You will not regret it. Unless you're on the track the multi and 1199 perform nearly the same on the road, and its 100 times more comfortable.

I don't feel like getting into it, but you will love it. Be sure to buy an S, and if the trade in allows then pick up a Pikes Peak or Granturismo (preferred).

I've owned a multi and two 1199's and once my 'need' for a super bike is gone I'll more than likely be picking up a 2014/2015 Multi at that time.

Enjoy!

I have both an 1199S and just got a 2011 Multi 1200 S. To me, they are very different. Cant see only having the Multi if you enjoy the feeling of a proper race bike seating/riding position. Yeah the Multi is quick, and I haven't ridden it but for about an hour, but I just don't feel like I am on a race bike and as such don't get the same satisfaction from riding it hard like I do the Pani. I got the Multi to have a bike for the long rides. It's a touring model which is upgraded. I had to have something that I could have some fun on when the road gets twisty but yet be comfortable on at 80mph on an interstate for hours on end. The Multi does that. I hope!!

I think you would be sorry, if a couple of grand doesn't matter to you, than it sounds like you should dump the Triumph, keep your bullet, and by the utility bike.

Get the Multi

The fastest guy in the canyons here, rides a Multi.

And there is some sick talent in our area.

I have had two of them they are great bikes . I have tracked mine on a few occasions in the fast group at Phillip Island and has no problem rounding up sports bikes .
They are comfortable to ride don't feel too heavy and are great for a long distance ride .
I am going to get another I want to try out the Skyhook suspension model .
I don't ride sports bikes on the road anymore it just doesn't excite me enough .

I am on my 3rd multistrada and would be without it, currently have oct 2011ABS added DP heated grips and DP top box saved money that way. I recently test rode the skyhook but didn't grab me!
The multistrada weighs around 195kg (dry weight) and feels light and agile and certainly shifts!! If I couldn't only have one bike the multistrada would be my choice.
My advice would be book nothing less than half a day test ride

What didn't you like about the Skyhook ? Everyone else I have spoken to says the new bike is a huge improvement from the old .

I would take the time to sell the Tiger for the most you can and get the MS as well as keep the Pani. IMO, I think the "one-bike quiver" is nearly impossible for anyone that likes sportbikes and touring.

i picked up a red 2014 Multi Grantourismo a week ago (kept the panigale and the monster)

sold the Harley

it took me about 200 miles to get used to the high riding position and the 4 riding modes really are completely different, but i can say already, this is one hell of a bike, it does everything well.

you will not regret getting one

congratulations, I am loving the heck out of mine. already have over 500 miles in two weeks (despite the cold mornings)

Ive had a couple issues already with it, but nothing major

deed is done. there is a pikes peak in the garage....

ill still lurk around here from time to time.
