Blue exhaust manifold

Hi, does anyone have an idea how to treat the exhaust manifold so it gets this nice blue shade? I'm assuming it would have to get torched, but with what kind of flame and temperature is needed? I don't feel like revving it at 10,000rpm for 30mins until it gets that color itself. I'm also not sure if anodizing only works with Titanium and what material the manifold from the 1299 is. Thanks for any ideas.

Itll only turn blue if you have a titanium exhaust. The stock 1299 exhaust is stainless steel and will never turn blue, but you can anodize it blue if you want but it won't look proper.

If you spend the money and buy a titanium system, it'll turn blue immediately on first start up just from idling, no need to run it at 10k rpm

The titanium goes very blue, I polished the OEM and it goes blue at the front connection. Does not matter if a pipe goes bronze or blue if you polish it with metal polish it will go back to original. If you use q12 on it it will even stop the discoloration if you dont

like red an blue....

Gents,

Trust me:
1. It doesn't go away, but will polish out.
2. The colouring is a living creature when the bike is running. I followed a mate of mine when he rode my bike. The exhaust header loop went from blue to glowing everytime he wound the gas on on...amazing to watch.
3. The exhaust has never turned blue at idle.

To be a Devils Advocate here. There are MANY people (Myself included actually) that actually "Desire" that Blue Look and seek ways to get their pipes to get it ! :)

If you don't like it, Im sure these fellow members can hook you up with ways to get rid of it.
You have to admit though, it does look ALOT better in Blue than it does in "Brown, Rust, or anything else!" ;)

Gunny, could agree more. Pre Motocorse exhaust I spent hours either polishing that cheap arse OEM exhaust or wrapping the ........
Now I just pull back the bike cover and see that lovely blue exhaust.

My favorite color is Ti. I am a Ti fanatic to say the least so you can imagine my displeasure when the pipes blued. The bluing is cosmetic. Thats why its an option on cheap jewelry and trinkets. Akra uses .... Ti in their production pipes thats why it atmospherically reacts. You dont see blue exhaust nozzles on F-22s or any other high grade TI that is subjected to heat. I know I know. Its all about the fluff and doodads.

All I need now is a Beedazled plate frame and some bar end tassels to go with my blue pipe and I won't have to make the trip to San Francisco for the 60s reunion.

What?

Exactly what I said. I fitted the full Akra system to my bike in 2014. It went a pretty blue colour. Then after a few more rides it went away again.

search and you will find others who have the same experience. Now it just looks like a metal silver colour. I did not spend $3800 AUD because it went blue. It was the weight saving and sound for me.

Hi Brad,
I wonder if the Akra system Ti is a different grade to the Motocorse Ti as the blueing in mine just grows. Having said that I have the Termi cans and Wilkson has posted many time before that Akras flow more than the Termis.

Hi mate
I wish it did stay blue as it did look nice. But alas it changed. I hope you have not covered up the beautiful welds on you system

Hi mate,

No way, but I did melt the fairings after I changed the OEM air filter to a BMC race filter. The machine ran lean and the bike and exhaust system got hotter than normal and melted the lower section of the rear tail fairings. .... I was pissed off. I know it was a home spray job, but it looked perfect and I had gone all the way to PI and back on it with no issues.

Anyway back to an OEM air filter and OEM stealth rear fairings...All good now.

As above, mine went a very beautiful blue and it seems to have faded a bit after a few trackdays. The more recent pictures do not show it very well but you can see it is not so blue. By what @endodoc mentions I guess its a sign of good quality to the stock Ti system on the R?
