Body position 1199....?

Curious how others find the best body position for their 1199? Obviously there are many differences with body types but I'm curious on gas tank gap 🤔 so not starting a debate but interested in hearing others personal preference

I feel more comfortable when I'm slightly further back in the seat however when I do this I don't get as good of a grip with the knees on the fairings.

When I go foward with knees fully into the tank grips on the fairings it's much closer to the tank and this also requires much more tuck foward.

The differences between the these is small but curious how others prefer body position on the 1199 set up?

hey buddy, i struggle with this so much as well....
when i move back on the seat, its harder to open my hips up and pivot towards the apex...
when i move too close to the tank, i have trouble getting off the bike enough and loading the inside peg.
I think ill settle on a bump-stop to kinda keep me inbetween...there is just so much room on the 11/12 '99 bikes.
as far as tuck, i'm trying to stay fully tucked pretty much all the way around the track...with the exception of hard breaking and setting up for turns.

i'm also interested in hearing other peoples thoughts...good thread buddy

I base it more on having my inner thigh against the tank for support under braking. I'm never really sitting in the center of the bike. I move over before even applying brake. Lower body keeps that position entering the turn all the way into, during and out of turn. Upper body is upright and in the wind for entry/braking, on the inside for late apex then forward while rotating bike upright for the exit. Ride the 1199 like a big bike, not a 600 and then the ergonomics will make sense.

…if you are having hard time to open your hips, I would suggest to check position of your foot! Basically if bowl (area between toes) of your foot is not on the tip of the peg you will run into this problem. For your hip to open up your heel must rotate in and to do that must have room which is taken away if your foot is not at the tip of the peg.
Try it on the bike while on the stand…
 
@Bo13R oh i feel you man...ive got other issues there. I cant bend my right foot very far..so i have to leave it pretty much locked in a center of peg condition...makes dragging toes on right turns pretty standard i'm afraid...

old war injury...i havent used a rear break pedal on a motor cycle in over 20yrs...

but yes on left turns i can pull my inside foot back and ride on toes in an almost parallel to the peg....

An no issues holding my weight on left leg/peg....

Agree on the movements your saying here and I do the same. My question still is more about how far foward you are, I'm experimenting as if I really get my knee all the way foward so it put me with no gap to the tank (hard to explain). All the way up feels better grip on with the leg especially in turn but hllow back hurts then. Versus back 2 inches feels better on the back but knees not quite as secured... make sense? Probably going to need pics to explain 😆

Id say somewhere in the middle. It's the distance that allows me to transition from a full left to full right turn and vice versa. You can put bike on stand and keep feet/toes on pegs and slide from side to side. If you are too forward you can't move sideways. Too far back and you have to little tank support.

agree with this....i think a bump stop that keeps me from sliding back that last couple inches will be key...
 
ya they make one that replaces the rear seat cover...with a stump on it that keeps your ... from sliding...but it kinda locks you into place as well...its a trade off....

The upper right is full tuck up where in the photo on the right slightly further back
