I have been using SS pads for a while and decided to try the XX pads last weekend at VIR based on a few comments I saw on here about the XX having a little less initial bite and being easier to trail brake.

I was somewhat disappointed with the XX pads, to me they just didn’t feel as strong as I prefer. They definitely make you get into braking a little more than the SS, but overall I felt the XX gave me a lot less confidence in my braking. I trail brake better and deeper with the SS pads.

Will give them another run at NJMP on Friday but if I’m not feeling good with them will go back to the SS for Saturday and Sunday.

Anyone else have an opinion?

It really comes to preference and the track you're on. The SS definitely drops the anchor harder than the XX, so losing some top end braking force is definitely a sacrifice with that switch. I personally prefer the XX because it allows for more leniency in "oh ...." moments. Had times out on track when another rider blows their line and cuts me off or something while I'm already leaned over. The XX allows that fine level of modularity for me to feel comfortable modulating brake pressure more/less while leaned over without being scared of a bite that will tuck the front.

But I think generally if you're used to the bite of the SS then there isn't much to gain from the XX. The latter seems to be a better choice for a less experienced track rider, or someone who uses their bike for both street and track. The SS is gonna be the better pad for fast bois.

Good feedback. With the SS I am a lot lighter on the brake lever, which is what I prefer, and I have a lot more confidence carrying more corner speed and braking to apex. Braking while leaned felt like a chore on the XX vs the SS.

I have no issues braking while leaned on the SS. I’ve even done a track school where we did high speed braking while turning drills on the track going quickly between cones using only brakes to steer. Part of me thinks I’ve just become used to these brakes and should probably stick with them

Ultimately you will be fastest with what you're comfortable on. I have some nerve damage from submarining so my right hand/foot starts losing some feeling midway through track days. It makes me a little less precise on the brakes, so the progression of the XX is better for me. I tried Z04s before and while they have more bite than any other pad I've ever used, it felt like a death trap for me. Just don't have the feel in my fingers to control them.

Went back to my SS pads. Anyone want a set of XX pads with 70 miles on them? Will let them go for half price of new. 75$ shipped.
