Brake system and ABS

During my last weekend's race I missed my brake point at the end of straight so had to go extra hard on the lever to wash as much speed as possible before I run out on the gravel. That being done, rear came up by like 1 meter in the air as described by marshals and what I felt.

Now my question is, does that mean the ABS didn't work? I had ABS set to 2.

Also since my crash last year, I have to pump the lever before I grab a hand full at every single turn otherwise it just won't stop and lever reaches the handlebar. I have bled the whole system multiple times and I don't seem to have any noticeable leak. In comparison I'd say I brake hard. I'd like to know based on your experience, is it normal with the stock brake system or something is wrong?

Given its a race bike, I'm considering an upgrade but would like to keep the cost to minimum. has anyone tried Brembo radial 19x18 or 19RCS with everything else stock? Any noticeable change?
Would appreciate any tips.

Sounds like you still have air in the system. Add two banjo bolts with bleed nipples to the top of the ABS unit, front hoses only. Try placing a heat shield between the ABS unit and the motor, as well, because it gets mighty hot down there.
If you're in "Race" mode, normally the ABS is front only.
A Brembo PR 19 x 18 billet master cylinder is good, but I'd run Brembo Z04 pads first and do a good bleed with RBF 600 or HTC 64T brake fluid from Brembo.

When I've been on track riding next to 899 the one thing that was always very obvious is that the 1199 stopping distance is considerably less. I'd say it was a combination of the improved brake hardware and the lower weight of the 1199.
You would have felt ABS working if it had cut in. I'm not sure of the exact point of operation but I often have the back end up in the air and I have never felt (or wanted) ABS to operate but that is on setting 1. If it had kicked in you would probably have been going quicker once you hit the gravel.

This just so wrong in so many ways

But sounds like your break system is broken
Or maybe that means it's working

Bypass the abs altogether, get a rcs 17, and Castrol brake fluid, and spend at least 120 $ in brake pads. That's a minimum to get your braking to expert level club racing. Anything better will cost you more.

Ok the first thing. "Brake" is how you spell the word you are trying to use. It is a noun. It is the name of the thing you are talking about. "Break" is a verb and means you are smashing or destroying something. English lesson over.

The fact that the back wheel came up means your front brake is working well, and also that the ABS is working fine. If you pulled really hard on the brake lever to stop going off the track, and your ABS was not working then there is a good chance you could have locked the front wheel and you most likely would have crashed. I think your ABS is fine.

But there is something definitely wrong if you have to pump the lever to get pressure in the system. The first thing I would do is to carefully check each part of the front brake system. I think you have air leaking into the system somewhere.

I think that it silly to even think about expensive upgrades to your brake system that you probably do not need. I am not saying do not spend the money as that is your business, I spend lots of money on my bike and none of it is necessary.

I know that you say you are racing and perhaps you are very fast but I suggest you also do some reading on basic maintenance. If you have bled the brakes properly there is no way the lever should go all the way to the bar.
Something is wrong.

Lots of good books on basic motorcycle maintenance.

I just had to bleed the front disc on my Husaberg. Rego time tomorrow. Using clear tubing you can see the tiny bubbles of air in the system. I think I must have filled the reservoir at least 5 or 6 times and put through at least 200 mls before the air was all out. Those air bubbles are pesky little buggers.

The bike is old and not ridden much so a very small amout of air finds its way in somewhere. ( I still have some clear tube left if anyone wants some for bleeding brakes.) :)

Here is a pic.

RCS19 would be rock hard... I got the RCS17, and it's a noticeable improvement

this depends on what bike you have.

899/959 buy the RCS19

1199/1299 buy the RCS17

for some reason the superlegerra has a MCS19 on it and thats another conversation in itself but for the mortal panigales get the one listed above for your bike.
