When I started riding over 40 years ago it was normal to change gears without the clutch both up and down but you needed a fine touch on the throttle for downshifts. The QS means you don't need to twitch the throttle, I guess it saves a microsecond and you dont have to think too hard.

Bag loads of sarcasm from me! Not a sarcastic reply either :)

Then why don’t you just use the clutch to downshift?

Because I don't want to use the clutch to shift, I want to blip it myself. Ducati's implementation requires the throttle to be completely closed for the quick downshift to work which I'm not a fan of.

I’m trying to imagine the kind of downshifting you want to do and it doesn’t look very practical, in my mind at least.

Does this technique require a slipper clutch?

Just THIS thread?
ahaha

No. The V4 has oodles of adjustable aspects such as "engine braking." You can make it heavy or light. You can do all kinds of abusive riding with these adjustments. Up shifting and dumping the clutch used to be a recipe for a rear end skidding but now you can up QS in a lean, which is kind of blowing my mind having ridden with no electronics for so many years. Is that the question? Maybe I got a little lost. I'm reading the thread backwards looking for something.

fkYES. +11tyb Your wife gets stellar quantities of points.
My wife printed 2 images of a Panigale V4S & stuck it on the kitchen wall and said, "Just go get that. That is what you really want."
That is wife material.

A chick I dated for a while was LIVID when I bought my V4. She was pissed and couldn't understand why I would buy a motorcycle for that much money when I could just get a car instead. She would try to convince me to sell it every other week. We broke up a few weeks after I spent nearly 5k for the exhaust system on it, lmao.

Fast forward years later, told my wife "I'm gonna turn the V4 into a track bike so I need to buy another bike for commuting."

Her response: "Okay, but it has to be red!"

Someone who wants you to abandon a passion is someone you have no business staying with.

Looks completely stock 800km that’s nice just some one took time to remove engine covers.it’s rare to see those bikes with that low miles/km this days.look nice

Nice Bike indeed, not easy to find with low mileage, even in Europe. Engine covers have been added in 2013, so it's in its original condition.
Safe riding

I finally have been able to ride the bike , I have confirmed only upshift works on 1199.

Between my 1299 and then riding the 1199 there is a significant doffed to feel to
the bike. I very much prefer my 1299 over 1199

The 1299 I test rode came with a electronic steering stabilizer. Half way thru high gear head shake galore. Talkin bout tank slappers at 175+

Enjoy

Who uses the clutch lever for anything other than the start? Quick shifters interrupt ignition so you can concentrate more on where your ass n your bike need to be. (Instead of throttle hand/left foot timing). Good ones ramp power back in which helps with wheel spin (makes you quicker and maybe fall down less : )

Here’s a quick data point:

My 2012 1199S has quick upshift and downshift. The shift mechanism appears to be 100% OEM stock, the throttle needs to be open and engine under load, both directions.

Interesting, before the QS era clutchless up and down shifts were pretty normal when going quick. Upshift was pressure on the lever and a momentary release of throttle, downshifting was the same, a quick blip with combined pressure on the lever.
