Buying a Panigale 1299S at 26K miles? Good or bad idea?

I have decided to upgrade to a Panigale, coming off Yamaha. I have found a very good looking 2016 Panigale 1299S which is the bike I currently was looking for, being sold near me. Not a lot of Panigales are available where I live.

This particular one has 26.000 miles on the clock. The owner has service records, clean title, garaged the bike when not used, and like I said, the bike looks flawless aesthetically.

This will be my first Ducati. Is buying this bike at this mileage a bad idea? I don’t mind having it occasionally serviced for minor problems, and I am aware Ducati charges some premiums for their service. However, how much more life can I expect out of this engine/tranny? Once I own it I will be taking great care of it, I am always on top of maintenance with my vehicles. Any opinions are welcomed, thanks in advance!

I’ve not had the best luck. But I ride them extremely had with track outings 3-5 weekends a year and Saturday rides that are pretty extreme as well. I do about 7-9k miles a year.

I know of 5-6 other riders near me with 30-40k miles but they don’t push them hard or track.

I’ve seen and heard of wayyyyy too many 1299’s blowing up prematurely. Unless you can get that bike for under $10K run away I’m telling you right now.

if its been thrashed/tracked extensively then its marginal but most people do not exploit the rev limits because they are just too fast on the road. The motors are pretty bulletproof, the forum has all the negatives since people come onto the board to complain about issues however most of these bikes are still going strong.

Check for road rash, how worn the discs are, chicken strips etc, plenty of Duc riders dont do much more than a pleasant sunday ride to get coffee.

I believe this is so true right here...i pass a huge group each SAT morning just sitting at the gas up spots...for hours and hours at a time....find one of those bikes OP!
really comes down to the type of riding you are gonna do...

If it’s spent the bulk of its life on a track near redline the entire time I’d probably pass. If it has always been a street bike and casually ridden and service is up to spec I’d consider it for the right price. What people don’t realize is these bikes will go 50k miles easily and even more if taken care of. They’re very well built machines and will go the distance. The reason you don’t see bikes with that kind of mileage is because they get wrecked or sold off and just essentially disappear for whatever reason.
