Buying a used 1199 R?

Had several Ducatis - currently own a lightly modded Diavel Carbon Red
Seriously looking at purchasing a used 2013 1199 R
3,000 miles, one owner, clean

Anything major to worry about or check?
The previous owner did not do track or (based on tire wear) a whole lot of spirited riding

The bike and all the features it comes with looks great!

Was planning to buy a new 1299 base but this "R" (same price but no warranty)
sure looks tempting

Any suggestions much appreciated ...
 
That's a difficult one, I'd take the R but that's me, assuming the base 1299 has Marzocchi suspension & cast Ali' wheels like previous, you would be getting so much more with the R if your really into the serious sport riding, if it mainly cruising / town etc then i would probably say 1299. Then again I have not ridin a 1299

Just wondering about specific risks when buying a 2 year old "R" without the security if a warranty

The new 1299 base has some nice new features over the 1199 plus a full warranty but that "R" sure has everything
 
Mine has 10K+ miles on the clock.
Just got back from a four day/1,200 mile trip and I'm still smiling.
No issues so far other than air in the clutch system and the chain rubbing on the swing arm.
Both issues are not common enough for DNA to issue a full blown recall.
 
I have a '13 R with 17,000 miles in two years about 5,000 of those miles on the track--yes, spirited I hope.

I've also put about 100 miles on the street and on the track on a '15 1299S.

I LOVE my '13 R...but...unless you are going to spend a LOT of time on the track I would strongly recommend buying the new 1299.

Why?

All of the '13 Rs advantages only come out at a VERY fast pace at the track.

The 1299 is a better street and road bike--smoother power delivery being the main difference.

And frankly, while many of our Panigales have been pretty trouble free I would strongly recommend against buying a Panigale without warranty coverage. Not because they are unreliable but because unless you are prepared to work on the bike yourself relatively minor things can become very expensive with the Panigale because of the labor costs involved in working a a bike that is so tightly designed.

Get 1299 with all the electronics and riders aid , out of curiosity what's wrong with buying a bike that's been on the track ? I see a lot of people avoiding bikes that's been redden on the track , I've never seen people abusing bikes on the track, and I've seen a lot of Street bikes with 10 inch chicken strips doing burn outs, endos, wheelies ...

This is Sport Motorcycle it's not a cruiser it should be on the track period !
 
The Panigale absolutely belongs on track
Nothing against that for sure. Buying used, only concern is a mishap/incident
That could happen on the road too

Like the R a lot - just a bit concerned about the lack of warranty and lack of history (used bike comes from a dealer)
 
Bought the 2013 R
Not the logical choice maybe but could not resist after seeing and hearing the bike
Getting it next Tuesday after a good clean up by the dealer

I think you can shop around the dealers (start with your first if you bought the bike from a dealer) and buy a used bike policy (will cost more than new and not as long) from RPM1 or Zurich.
 
Enjoy your '13R. I love mine. If I had bought the base or the S, that would have been my only regret.
