! Can Line - Word of warning

Maybe let me re-phrase my question.

For the MSG ID which is also used for abitration (fight for bus right to trasnmit) do you have the complete abitration or MSG ID list for the panigale to know which ID represent what component.... for example what is the ID for Wheel speed sensor front and which represent Wheel speed sensor rear...so on and on....the list?

Anyone has it...?

Outside of Ducati it seems only a very small handful know. Tuneboy, Rexxer, Doug(uk) & Chris(somewhere else) and a couple of others that have I come across. Given that that knowledge represents their competitive edge I don't expect any of those guys to be publishing it any time soon. And let's not even talk about the heat they would get from Ducati for making Ducati's proprietary IP public.
The message IDs used depend on the protocol that is used on the system. If it were straight CAN (most unlikely) then the IDs represent different system messages not the different components. If some derivative of J1939 is used as in most vehicle systems then the components do have an address on the system and that address forms part of the message ID but the addresses are determined dynamically at power on!.
I have seen it stated that it has taken a year for some to figure it out hence the desire to earn a return on the time invested once accomplished !

There are multiple failure messages related to failures on the bike. Point im making is that the messaging system should be good enough to localize the fault.. I had a bbs failure and according to the manaul it could be the bbs or exhaust valve. It turned out to be bbs connector during hot running. I figured this myself using a heuristic analysis approach. Sadly there are also catch-all general fail messages that can point to multiple causes. Those messages can be nerve racking to troubleshoot. Ymmv

thanks for the lesson. I got more faith is this star network of sorts.

Thanks. This is very good to know. That our bikes use good diagnostics technology. Perhaps the resolution of these messages on the dash can be improved to aid in recovery.

Nope CAN is designed to be an unbroken bus topology with all components connecting to the same conductors. If one station goes faulty is (either too many rx errors or too many tx errors) it will remove itself from the bus in order not to interfere with the remaining devices. CAN is designed to be one of the most robust and reliable communication buses for use in hostile environments (e.g automotive).

In our case it's hard to say EXACTLY what is implied by the Dash's 'CAN LINE ERROR" display. Has it had too many rx errors and gone 'off-bus' ? Myself I doubt it - more likely to be a higher level or supervisory error condition such as the Dash saying "I am expecting to see a message from the ECU every 100ms but I haven't seen one - something's up!"

Did you guys get the recall notice related to this?? A friend of mine got his in the mail the other day (2012 1199S). Just a heads up, might be wise to talk to your local dealer.
