Can someone identify which bolts should go here?

Hi All,

I used blue-loctite on all of my fairing bolts except for those around the radiator. You can guess what I'm missing now. :( I put a stainless steel bolt to indicate where I am referring to (~center of photo). Unfortunately, I lost both the left and right side bolts at this position so I am unsure what bolt/washer combo is correct.

Two Questions:

Could someone please take a look at their 1299 and post a pic or let me know the bolts (washers) they have at this location?

I am finding it difficult to get a replacement bolt started. I looked at the attachment point with the fairings off. It is a simple rubber grommet with threads at the end that is housed in the upper side fairing. My 2nd question is how to keep the grommet from rotating when trying to start the bolt?

On a positive note my 1299s was amazing fun at the track Monday! :)

Thanks!

It is a washer and bolt combo
and inside between the plastic pieces is a collar washer .(spacer for the painted pieces ) without the collar washer to act like a spacer I'm guessing the plastic would rub really bad .
hope that helps

Ohhh, cool that Ducati learns from it's engineering errors :)

I changed this part about a year ago on my 1199. Screws are ProTi, washers from Ducabike.

Also note that those bolts are a 2.5mm hex while all the other side fairing bolts are 3mm. It isn't anything fancy though so you could probably source a suitable replacement at your local hardware store.

Hey Gecko,

Is that necessary? I mean do they come loose enough that you had to secure them with bolts?

Not necessary at all. But since I replaced all (flexible) plastic parts with carbon fiber (not flexible at all), it became increasingly difficult to mount everything perfectly in place without some mechanical tension. The solution was to take screws instead of this plastic snap thingies.

I understand.

Where do you have photos of your bike the way it is now? Can I see!!?!?

Thanks! Now I have an excuse to buy some ProTi bolts----very nice.

Thanks Macattack! This forum is great---a very helpful answer in only 10 minutes!

Looks nice Gecko. I replaced my front rotor disc bolts yesterday with Gold Pro Ti ones. Weight saving over OEM is 35 grams total for all 10 bolts.

Question. In your pic, what is the Proti bolt that you put in screwing into ?

The screws are the same as the ones from ProTi for the fairings. On the opposite side I placed this little black threaded metal clips that are used everywhere else on the fairing parts where screws are involved.

Hi Gecko,

where did you get additional black threaded metal clips for the fairings?

Thanks!

I just asked my Ducati dealer, he's got some drawers full of this kind of tiny little things like clips, brackets, screws etc.

I also found them on the OEM parts fiche and you can order them from ProItalia (or your dealer using that part number). It was under $2 if I remember right.

Thanks Slickwill,

just found them at ProItalia:

Ducati OEM QUICK FASTENING M5
SKU: 85040471A

$0.84 each

Ducati OEM SCREW
SKU: 77211091C

$5.94 each

Thanks!

Hi Gecko,

do you use Ti-prep or blue loctite on the small Titanium bolts for your fairings?

Thanks!
