Hi,

Is it me or is it pretty impossible to go by the manual re. chain adjustment? It says 50 - 52mm but you can't deflect it upwards that much in the middle you hit the swingarm.

Not really a big problem as I just adjust it until it feels/looks right, a bit on the loose side but not dragging on the exhaust can !

Thanks.

Measure from bottom of swingarm, push down chain as far as it goes and measure distance between chain and swingarm. Should be about 2 inches for us Americans per owners manual. Although it still looks loose to me. But I haven't had a problem. Someone else on this forum wrote that his chain dug into his swingarm, yikes!!

Yes the manual is funny how it reads, but the measurement is half way between sprockets measure 50mm from bottom of swingarm to center of pins of the chain while pushing down slightly. And yes I'm the one with the chain rubbing the swingarm, dealer found the problem after. Few days there. The factory had installed the front sprocket on backwards!
The front sprocket only has a shoulder on one side. If installed backwards chain rubs swingarm.

Ahhh, thanks that's me not paying attention, every other bike I've had you push the chain down then measure the deflection upwards, I should have read the manual !!

As for the sprocket, that's a worry, bit like putting the wrong bolt in the swing arm !

Waiting for the 'I let the clutch out and the bike set off backwards' thread :))

Since no manual yet, I went by the torque spec on my streetfighter as the hub is identical 35nm each tightened in a 1:2:1 sequence, ie "1" is the left bolt (from the back of the bike)

Can you explain that more?
I've seen it in the torque table of the service manual but couldn't work it out.

Does it mean the left bolt might need another nip up after you've done the right bolt?

That's how I interpret it, ducati does it on other componenst like the front axle pinch bolts.

help guys! i had the same problem!!! my chain hit my termi a little. i went to my dealer here and they say the chain is not to loose... :S

is your drive sprocket reversed? Apparently this happened on someone elses bike. Even with 52mm sag in the chain it shouldn't be hitting the cans.

i have no idea i have not changed anything on the bike but the termignoni slip-on cans.
can you explain it to me please ?

Are you sure the chain sag is not more than 52mm? I can't imagine it hitting the cans, no one else has mentioned this. I have stock cans.

no the sag is less. they have checked the sag. and it happened after my 600 miles. after first service. really strange. but can you explain to me what happend with the other guys bike ? with the reverse sprocket

his bike apparently came from the factory with the front (drive) sprocket on backwards (the shoulders are differnt) He noticed rubbing on his swingarm which told him something was wrong.

ok and did he damage his cans too ? or did he only have that.. ? sorry for the many questions but he really like to know as much as possible, tuesday my bike wil go to the dealer.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but does any else have a problem adjusting the chain tension (i.e. tightening to remove slack)? I'm able to loosen the chain just fine with very little effort, but rotating the eccentric to tighter is nearly impossible. The adjustment bolts are not only all the way loose but I removed them. I finally did get the eccentric to rotate but the amount of effort to tight compared to loosening is just ridiculousness!

Yep same here... Its so hard I actually lift the whole rear of the bike to do it... I guess its how it is...
