So, my new Panigale loves to coat the left underside of the tail in little specks of guck flying off the stock chain.

What have you guys done to get the chain all nice and clean?

I have an aerosol chain lube that goes on clear so after a good cleaning this should no longer be an issue.

I clean the Dragon Lady's chain once a week with a cheese cloth rag and paraffin. Once her chain is clean I use Motul chain wax on her chain. There is nearly no spin of from that.

I spray WD-40 on a rag to wiped down the chain and use Dupont Teflon Chain Saver as a lube. No flinging off at all ;)

I never clean my chain. Only let it get almost dry and then spray more chain lube on it. As for 'fling' gasoline works very well at removing it.

If/when you do clean your chain, use Kerosene and do not EVER rotate the wheel forward with your hand/rag cleaning the bottom side of the chain. You'd be surprised at how this practice is such an efficient finger remover. Do a search on Google Images or on youtube.

Friend of mine did that with the engine running at idle when we were kids. Bike was a Bulltaco if memory serves me. Stalled with 3 fingers at about the 5 o'clock position.

His dad was a mechanic and had the presence of mind to use bolt cutters to remove the chain. Then the task of forcing the fingers out of the sprocket. Bones in the 3 fingers were broken. Trip to the HP and all was good after about a month. His butt was on the mend at the same time due to a trip down the pavement without protection and his broken wrist just finished healing.

Rough summer.

Ditto on the WD40 as a chain cleaner and then PJ1 chain lube. The stuff is cheap, but works great!

I use to spend a hr or more using kerosene (aircraft fuel) and WD-40. Until I saw the mechanic at the dealer using Motul. Took him less than five minutes to remove that goofy white shipping chain lube. Needless to say I use Motul cleaner and chain lube. I also use to use Bel Ray lube, Motul isn't as thick or white. Plus I've had bad luck getting rust on the chain by only using WD-40. I wasn't on top of it as often as necessary. If you are lazy or forgetful, stay away from WD-40. I've heard Pro Honda has a similar line to Motul...

I've used the Pro Honda cleaner and lube for years; the cleaner works great at errr, cleaning and the lube doesn't fling off all over everything. It's not quite as clean as the old DuPont Teflon dry lube was, but it's fine.

dupont degreaser the old crap drips right off you dont even have to scrub it stuff is amazing.

then

dupont chain saver nothing better nice and cheap on amazon

BelRay Super Clean user here for years. Applied liberally on a warm chain, with time to wipe the chain down good keeps your bike clean, extends chain life, and eliminates the need to ever have to clean the chain. "Cleaning" a chain with solvents should be avoided as it is a double edged sword. The solvents remove all or a portion of the factory installed greases internally of the chain, that can not be reintroduced. You should have a better reason than aesthetics if you want to go there.

FYI, standard WD40 is not a lubricant, but a solvent that has some lubricating qualities. So don't get caught in that trap. WD40 has recently released a line of lubricants if you are brand loyal.

I'm ready to roll...bike is nearly, too. Just working out shipping and then I'm off.

Sorry to hijack the thread (again). Glad to hear that everything is starting to work out for you. I can't wait to start reading about your new journey.

Ok, back to the chain cleaning thread again.
