Hey everyone be super careful with the amount chain wax ducati or the dealers are putting on the 1299. I had it splatter all over rear wheel and on to the exhaust. It is a son of $$ to clean up. It is all over tire too good thing I am maticulaious about cleaning so I caught it.

WD-40 will take it off like it's simply dust.

You beat me to it!

Soak a rag in wd-40, put on rubber gloves and scrub off all the overkill lube. Only gonna make a mess on your bike. I remember watching a video of an 1199 on the dyno catching fire. Apparently it was the wax that flung off onto the muffler that caught fire. ;)

Whatever that is its the most frustrating stuff I have ever encountered. I spent an hour trying to clean it off of my 899 red rims and only cleaned less than half of the rear rim. My dad came by, saw my struggles and grabbed my wd40 and it literally took 2 minutes to clean the rest of that rim and the front. I couldn't believe it. It took no effort

I also tried wd40 but it attracted bunch more road grime and left residue when dried on plastics. So then I tried a mild water base de greaser and wiped down with water.

After a WD-40 cleaning if I'm not relubing I always use another clean rag and scrub off all the excess. Theres more than enough grease left inside the rollers of the chain to keep it lubed up.

The dealer don't put that .... on, most new chains aren't any different....wipe ride wipe ride wipe ride good!!!

As said above, wipe down with WD40 or brake-cleaner.

After spending money on high-end chain lube I accidentally discovered a super cheap dry lube with graphite and moly. Since it's of a metallic gray colour it's not very pretty on the gold plated chains but very effective. Went 13k km on the OEM chain with one small adjustement.

Yeah noticed it was on pretty heavy at the Charlotte dealer yesterday. Hard to see in pic.

WD-40 works great. Word of advice would be to apply it to a rag and then use the rag to clean the chain.

If you spray it directly in the chain, you will dry out the O rings and they will flake out.

here's my solution...

Can't really stop what gets on the wheels...but that's usually not too bad. But seeing all the oil chunks on the undertail was maddening.

I gotta say too, this was a success.

after a fresh lubing, I can only find two chunks of chain wax on the undertail! As soon as I find some time, I plan on updating and improving the look of the extended guard.

as has been said 1million times honda cleaner or original spry cleaner polish (same thing) took of the chain wax instantaneously had the white grease wiped off the rims and under the tail in less than a minute . I personally would never put wd40 on my bike plastic but that is just my opinion of wd40

I will say cleaning the front rim is alittle like sticking your hand in a conibear trap glad those don't seem to get as dirty as the rear rim.

I wouldn't use brake cleaner...it will strip the lubrication away (that .... is strong).

Like they said, use WD40 (or Mineral Spirits). Then I lube mine with that DuPont Teflon spray that goes on dry.

if you are not using dupont degreaser to clean your chain and dupont chain saver to lube it not only are you doing yourself a disservice you are wasting money too.

the degreaser works with no rubbing the old crap just drips off (obviously using a rag works) and the chain saver is wax based doesnt really fling off.

best part its half the price and twice as good as anything else.

Agreed completely.

That DuPont degreaser stuff is awesome.

This stuff is the .....

I had that wax all over over the under tail. I have the matte black, so I used just soap and water. Cleaning the chain first time does take longer than usual.
