Three weeks ago at a track day, my 1199s with the full Termi system started backfiring more than usual. The front cylinder sounded as if it wasn't firing right. Somewhat acted like a fouled plug or loose coil lead, though on investigation, I noticed that the header plug was missing. Thinking that this was a mechanics error I replaced the missing plug with one from my stock system, tightened the plug on the rear and reported this to my Dealer. They sent me a new plug to replaced the one I used. Job Done...

Or so I thought - yesterday, caught in slow traffic, as I finally cleared the traffic the bike started backing again and was really cooking my thighs! I pulled over to let things cool off and noticed my carbon heat shield was smoking! That's we I noticed that I had lost the rear header plug this time, which I know was tight as I had tightened it a few weeks prior. I rechecked the front plug, which was fine. I did note that the stock/replacement plugs are stainless steel with copper washers where the plugs that were in the Termi from the factory, were copper plugs and washers.

My Dealer will be investigating.

Thanks for the tip, do you know what the plugs should be torqued to?

Sorry - No. Wasn't included in the 1198 service manual but I had/have them as tight as I dare, which is dang tight. Waiting on word from the dealer on the "proper" torque.

Which track day were you on and how did you get on with the noise test? Did you have to fit the baffles to pass the static test? Im at Brands on the 19th Sept and have concerns about it passing the noise test with the full system fitted.

Thanks,
Ben

I've been sticking to Donnington and Silverstone - ride by monitoring only.

I hear that Ducati UK have worked a deal with MSV, though I've not been to Cadwell with the Panigale yet to verify.

Checked 'em while replacing the missing aft-right muffler support screw last night. Nothing loose on my unit, but thanks for the "heads up" in any case. Wonder what else will go wrong with this damned thing?

Just installed my full termi and it requires two as you have noted.

There was only one on my stock exhuast unless I am missing something.

Im stuck without one of these plugs, is the dealer the only place to get them?

Anyone know any sizing info?

edit they have them in stock for 10$ at the local dealer. They also stated there are two on a stock system. Ill have to search better when I get home

Keep an eye on your carbon fiber heat shield screws as well. Lost mine (the one on the side of the shield), and I can only imagine if the others had loosened further (they were already loose by the time I discovered this) that the shield would be sliding down the road, to be thereafter run over by a vehicle and destroyed. Lots of money to replace I am sure!!

That screw is so short, I had a left over long screw from the stock heat shield and use the long one for just that reason.
