I check my coolant level after its first service and it had only 3oz of fluid. It was not registering a level on the sight gauge!

Anyone know the procedure to properly drain and replace coolant?

You have to take off the right fairing and upper, the res and the rad fill point is there. It's a bitch. The drain bolt is on the left side, so you'd have to remove the left lower. Again, not pleased with the thought process on where they've put specific points.

I just checked mine and same thing--nothing is showing on the site gauge. What color fluid should be showing through the window?

And what are the normal operating temps you guys are seeing? Wondering how much of the excess heat I'm feeling can be attributed to a lack of coolant!

This is just terrible- look at the trouble just to fill coolant!
In a nutshell the entire front fairing, 3 pieces must be removed- really?????

Looks like a few hours work to remove fairing and unbolt stuff- just unacceptable!

This seems to be the price for compactness and forward thinking- not impressed

Sorry for your frustration, but you should've known from the get go nothing Ducati is easy! If ya want easy get a can off tuna...

I don't mind the fact its difficult so much but will your mechanic take the time to service this area for you correctly? I need shop manuals!

still wondering what the level should be on the sight panel? ??

sounds like nobody is seeing a reading on it. the fluid is blue by the way. You should see it if there is fluid in there!

actually you only need to pull the right sided fairing to get to both radiator and overflow tank caps. The fairings are actually quite easy to remove, takes about 5 minutes.

It's virtually impossible to see the level in the overflow tank I've thought about maybe adding food coloring to make it a more bright color.

I understand (kinda) about having to remove a fairing to get to the bottle, but are you guys saying you can't SEE the level without removing a fairing ??!!

At first I thought I was low too because I couldnt see any fluid, until I tipped the bike way over and had a second person look. Turns out it was full but not low enough on fluid to be able to see in the sight "glass."

I'm not sure many full sport bikes have an exposed coolant filler cap. They all pretty much need to have a fairing removed. It's tough to see the level looking at the site window because the bottle is opaque white color and coolant is blue or green pale, it's just tough to see, same as my streetfighter. You don't need to remove the fairing to check the level. Try rocking the bike a little and you can probably see the coolant moving in the site panel

plus the fact that the opposite side of the tank is covered by the fairing upper so that no light shines through aggravates the situation. shining a flashlight on the sight glass portion of the tank does nothing. i ended up removing the fairing upper and reservior cap and using a zip tie for a dipstick.

not very well done imo but i tend to forget about it when out railing twisties>;)

Pretty odd dealers don't have manuals yet. What's logical about this?

On the positive! I love the bikes performance / potential .

I spoke to Hattar motorsports about it today--they (Nick) said that the window is only for the overflow reservoir, not the radiator. That's good, but when nothing is showing through the sight 'glass', I wonder how much fluid is missing entirely from the radiator. I'll pull the fairing tomorrow and find out.

Removing an entire fairing is kind of lame. Most bikes I've had never required removing a panel to fill the remote res (which was entirely made of translucent material), but if you need to fill the radiator at most all you needed to remove was a top cosmetic panel.

On a side note--best practice is to fill with distilled water, not additional coolant.

I swapped out my coolant for Engine Ice. (Its blue and easy to see). I used a Uview Airlift 2 to drain and replenish:

Amazon.com: UVIEW 550500 AirLift II Economy Cooling System Refiller: Automotive

Remove right side fairing, Get to the ready cap, a little compressed air and the Airlift, thats all it takes.

I had the bike on the track yesterday it was averaging 15 -20 degrees cooler with the Engine Ice.

Ducati said engine ice will void the warranty if used. Something about it possibly being more corrosive and if used any corrosions found it will not be covered.
