Clutch push rod engine oil leak

Hey Dark, are you able to put the measurements and o-ring specs up for others?

Didn’t take measurements but have a couple of photos

originally I got the o rings from ducati but thought they were too big and would have to take too much material off rod. So I went and got an o ring that measured around 6mm od and 1mm width roughly. So the od of installed o ring on rod was 8.3mm. I kept the o rings so they wouldn’t go into the section that reduces as you can see the polished section of rod

I do have it apart and I do see a wear mark is that from the factory seal. sorry it took so long to reply. So you put both o rings before the factory seal? And this fix has been working for you no problem with oil getting into the clutch basket. Don't see a way I can post the picture here. Thanks again for the info your a life saver.

Pretty sure this doesn't prevent oil getting into your wet clutch 🙄 It does however fix oil leaking from behind the clutch slave cylinder 😉

All good, I figured you know what you meant so couldn't resist saying something 🤣

Yes realized the error in my ways. Have you done this fix yet. I'm in the works of finding a good machine shop with lathe. Kinda nervous but can't stand this little leak.

I haven't, but it's not a scary venture. Just be sure to measure from the rod end to the block, add a few mm/thou and make sure you don't touch the darkened area where the original seal is. You could double check against Darks pictures for rough scale

Yep have had no oil leaks since. I saw the 916 series bikes had it so just copied it and it works . Unsure why ducati would put a rubber seal in the block as there is no way to replace it. I haven’t used rtv on the inside of the plate where the slave goes against either on the 1299 I just put a new o ring but I’ve heard that one is just to stop dirt/dust not an oil seal

From memory if you look into the hole where the push rod goes it steps down and becomes narrower and I thing that’s where I placed my o rings . Just make sure as you pull in the clutch the push rod will move and that the o rings don’t catch that lip

Hello if anyone out there still wants to modify there clutch push rod I've great success doing mine.
I machined just the one groove in which used a 1.6mm cross-section oring. since installing ive done a fair bit of riding and no leaks so far.:) in case anyone wants to do there own, I've attached the machining dimensions that I used.

What was the outside diameter of the o-ring?

Hi Disco, I just used one of my o-rings from an oring kit that i had, which suited the rod and internal bore. Machining the oring groove to 1.4mm deep gave it enough but not too much crush to the 1.6mm cross-section oring i used. When i get back home next week i'll send out the oring part number from the kit.
