CNC Left Handle bar switch (Street) - 6 pin connector help

Hi I've just fitted a new CNC Left Handle bar switch to my V4s Streetfighter and after a few hours of riding it stopped working and the hazard lights remain on.
I looked at the 6 pin connector and wiggled it a bit and it started working again and then it stopped working again.

My problem is my bike is in Thailand me too :) but I bought it in the UK and it was sent from Italy from Motostorm.
Before I go through the process of sending it back for a replacement I would like to get some advice and information about fixing it myself.

Does any one know where I can get the same 6 pin male and female connectors from?
Or any suggestion using other 6 pin connectors types or even getting the current connectors to behave? (electrical tape didn't work)

Any idea why the cable has a big black box and can I cut it off? 🤔
I think probably it's important but who knows. The blue button has a white ring which is different from the CNC website and that seems odd to me.

Thanks in advance

Use a zip tie instead of electrical tape.

The white ring is odd. I'd return it just for that reason. I'm guessing they're having supply issues with the on/off switches and that's all they could source. Seems pretty lazy.

Thanks zip ties might just do it! 👍

Anyone have an idea what the black box could be for? It's nearly as big as the switch!

I don't understand, does CNC expect you to have that huge box hanging behind the switch!?!?

No. It is attached to the buttons with a long cable and is meant to be mounted somewhere near the key.

It has the circuitry necessary to run the switches. There's more to it than just some buttons.

I wish I could find information on the CNC website about it is meant to be mounted somewhere near the key.

It just says plug and play and ready to go. My guess it the location of where its mounted it not important.

I found a WRS switch that look like it has a black box but no mention of location or what is for.

Same on the Jetprime and I put it to the left of the battery. It doesn’t need to be mounted near the key - just wherever you can find a space for it.

I replaced the CNC ones with Jetprime in the end. They work perfectly and although the switch is very similar to the CNC I think the quality of the cable, box and connector are better. Also you get extra coloured button caps which is a nice touch.

@Marvalo Can you tell me what color buttons you have, including the replacements, and maybe include a picture of the back-side of one of the buttons? I've been trying to find different colored buttons forever and no one seems to know what they are.

And I think Jetprime actually makes all of CNC Racing's stuff and then CNC Racing re-brands and increases the price by 50% again. I looked pretty heavily into both of those brands and they looked identical.

That would not surprise me.

Hi @MileHayabusa

these are the remaining button caps that came in the box and there are an additional orange, gray and white on the back of the switch seen in the photo with the bike.
18 in total.

I got a defective Jetprime switch one time. The ECU did not like it. Did all sorts of weird stuff. They replaced it.

I appreciate it...those look just like the button caps that came with the CNC Racing handlebar switches for my V4 R. Problem is, I got switches for my Streetfighter V4 SP, still from CNC Racing, and the buttons are a funky 'matte' finish and the backside is completely different and I have ordered switch buttons and caps from a half-dozen places and none of them work and CNC won't tell me what buttons they used and they don't offer replacement buttons that I can find.

May reach out to them again...never knew button caps would trigger my OCD so badly.

DBK did the same thing switching the finish on the buttons. I've got shiny duka bike buttons on the left and matt ones on the right on my Hyper. Annoying, and they don't sell matching sets.

I’ve got different colour switches on each side never mind the buttons. I’m coping…

Fortunately both sides are 'matte' but I still want to change the color of the buttons on mine and not have to deal with what someone 'thought they should have been'.

I may reach out to DBK also to see if they sell the button caps...the infamous button saga continues.

Do you just need the caps? I think CNC is the same as Jetprime in that they use Otto P9M switches. You can buy the caps online in whatever color you want. Websites like Mouser or Digikey have all kinds of those switches, even different brands and styles.

It used to be just that easy...the buttons on my V4 R use the Otto P9M switches and I ordered a bunch of them through Mouser knowing I'd be getting the handlebar switches for my Streetfighter also. Problem solved...except not.

At some point, and CNC Racing has confirmed, they changed the suppliers of their buttons and, according to them, they don't offer button caps because you can't remove them from the new switches. Not true...they come off just like any other button cap.

I have ordered buttons from any number of vendors on eBay, Amazon, Alibaba, etc. hoping to find a match and haven't been able to yet.

Here are the 'old' versus 'new' button caps for CNC handlebar switches...you can see the 'new' ones have a matte textured finish and a completely different mounting method and they cannot be swapped. I also included a picture of the bag of Otto P9M caps and I've got another bag that probably has 100 caps in it, none of which work.

Jetprime did something similar with their on/off switches. All of the momentary buttons were Otto with the glossy caps but the on/off were matte with a slight flat spot instead of a dome. It’s a dumb thing to be annoyed about, but annoyed I was.

Will they tell you who their supplier is?
