I think it's time to retire my X-11 but I can't decide what to get. I was working out a list of requirements and this is what I have so far:

- safe (duh)
- pinlock available/compatible
- drop down sun visor (now I carry 2 shields)

My use case is - daily commuter, rain or shine, night and day, 4 seasons. I have a Corsair V that I use for fun Pani riding so this is my workhorse commuting helmet.

I kind of like the Shoei GT-Air Wanderer and it seems to meet all three criteria, but I was also looking at the Schuberth S2.

Anybody else have an opinion or input?

Do you have a Sena??? If so Schuby wont work..How about an Rf1200 with transitions visor??

Shoei RF1200
1) Quiet
2) Comes with a Pinlock
3) Photochromic shield is about to be Released
4) Light weight lighter than the X-12
5) Compact Design.
6) excellent air flow
7) Stylish

The GT Air flows nice for a touring bike but its loud.

I do have a Sena, but I keep it permanently mounted on my Arai. Too many nut bags on the commute eating, shaving, texting, reading the paper, etc. that I can't risk any distractions. :)

Then again, it would be nice to have the option to throw it in there if I wanted to for some reason.

As Mark and I have been trying to tell you guys for so long now, the Bell Star is one of the best lids out market due to the transition shield. No changing clear and tinted lenses and the absolutely BEST ventilation of all helmets! I assure you that once you try one you won't be sending it back or wanting anything else. No ....!

Does the transition have pinlock? That's the one feature I can't live without. I use it every day from like October to May. It seems to me it wouldn't work too well since it's a "lens in a lens" like snowboarding goggles, but what do I know. Maybe you can do a clear pinlock inside a transition shield? Then again, I could see the flip down tinted shield fogging on the GT-Air. Hmm. I might be stuck with a clear and dark pinlock like I have now.

transition for bell does not have pinlock however shoei x 12 or rf1200 has transition with pinlock.

i have all 3 helmets.
shoei x12 marquez for track
shoei rf1200 marquez black ant just because
bell star carbon summer helmet moves so much air comfortable and transition shield but no pin lock. only draw back is its noisy but i ride with earplugs

it is a clear pinlock lens inside a transition shield

ok, kinda leaning toward an RF1200 with transition pinlock visor unless somebody else has a better idea.

as i have both helmets i can tell you except for the design of the vents the rf1200 and the x12 are the same helmets. next year i believe dont quote me there will be an x13 all new. the rf1200 may be better than the x12 believe it.

It was a tough call, but I had to go with something that has better airflow than all the recommendations from you guys but also has second to none protection. Only one helmet could really fill those shoes..

The GMAX Naked Tormentor

Try it, you'll love it !

E- you are SERIOUSLY missing out on this by not at least TRYING the Bell with transition shield brother! Id be happy to let you try mine but then again I never hear nor see you anymore and you are right here in my AO, and a block from me at work!

I've personally owned every brand of helmet there is (though no Shuberth or whatever that name is) and found the Bell to be the MOST ventilated of them all. I have an Arai Ducati Corse model that I got with the 1198s Corse ,and the Bell Star Cerwinske. Each time i go out its a toss up which i wear but usually ends up being the Bell, DEFINITELY in the summer for sure! Believe me, nothing I hate worse than riding on a bright sunny day with a clear lens and since we have so much storage space on the Pani for carrying a spare lens, NOTHING beats the transition shield out there! And NO, sunglasses with the clear lens are NOT the answer at all. This thing gets dark enough where bright sun is no issue at all, and quickly changes to clear once the heat tab in the sky goes down for the night!

That is my 4 cents on this and feel bad for ya man for not even giving it a try. Plus they don't .... you on the price of this great lid as well, which comes in some great graphics and carbon of course too! I turned Mark and other members onto it and all of them love it for summer riding. Yeah the drawback is some noise but even using the Sena SMH-10 it doesn't even effect audio or ability to talk back n forth with someone either on the phone or rider to rider. Maybe one day we'll meet up again with other members at our Starbucks location in Arlington eh?

Thanks, Gunny. We definitely need to get a group together now that the weather is nice again.
