AGV Pista GP RR fit

Which Pista
I’m coming from the Shoei X-Spirit 3, which is a great fit. My head measures just under 58cm. I tried the ML in a shop and it was a good fit but it felt like there was room to go down to MS, so I ordered in that size, this being the recommended size for my head measurement.

It requires quite an effort to squeeze my head into the opening but I can get it on. It feels a bit tight across the forehead but is otherwise a good fit. Cheek pads seem to be good and I assume there will be some relaxing of those over time.

Can anyone confirm that the pads around the forehead relax a bit over time? Are there adjustments that can be made that would release just a little bit of pressure? Perhaps changing the position of the pads on the crown would raise or lower the padding around the forehead a bit in relation to the shell? By this I mean perhaps moving the padding on the top would raise the helmet slightly and move my forehead to a slightly wider part of the shell? Obviously I can try this but I thought I would ask the forum before buggering about with it. My head is a bit flat on top (they probably dropped me as a child), so that might have some impact on the fit. it’s fine in the Shoei though but I couldn’t seem to find a direct comparison of fit and all I found seemed to indicate that both helmets were designed for intermediate oval. I take medium in the Shoei.

I’d appreciate any thoughts on this. The ML did feel ok but I know how much padding can relax and I felt it would be just a little bit loose after a while. The MS feels very close to being a good fit and hopefully the padding will relax just enough to make it perfect, but I’d appreciate any thoughts on this from those with experience. I’m looking to buy another one in plain carbon to have it custom painted and so I want to ensure that I’m getting the correct size. Visibility seems great, the visor mechanism is excellent and I like the Soleluna 2021 style.

Where did you purchase yours from?

The AGV GP RR is a track helmet, not made for touring, meant ti be worn for shorter periods of times and be pretty snug.

Having said that their are the extra pads for the crown that make a HUG difference.

Use the thickest crown pads and place them as close together and furthest to the front as you can on the crown, this will raise the forehead pad upward, and improve your forward sight window while in a tuck.

Thanks Steven.

The visibility is exceptionally good with this helmet. It's certainly a small opening compared to the equivalent size in my Shoei and needs a firm pull to get it on but it seems ok once it's on. I can't imagine it falling off! 🤣

I actually had to move the padding out a bit for it to feel comfortable but it sits high enough on my head for visibility to be fine. I have to look up as high as my eyes can go to be able to just about view the centre of the upper part of the opening and that's more from peripheral vision than it being clearly visible.

I wear a 7 1/2 fitted baseball caps and a XL shoei x-12. Same in a HJC lorenzo carbon. Both fit great and very comfortable. A few years back, I decided to add the agv corsa handprint and agv pista soleluna helmet for no other reason than looks so I went with an XL in those also. Fitment is TERRRRIBLEEE! I even tried an XXL in store for the hell of it and still fit like ..... Very uncomfortable. I still have them because they look awesome and i won't get rid of them but i only wear the agv's on short rides. The RPHA10 Lorenzo Carbon helmet is not only the lightest helmet I have (lighter than the agv pista) but the most comfortable helmet I've ever owned. I haven't tried all brands or models but for my shape head, AGV is junk in terms of fitment.

I hear people say that some manufacturers cater to certain head shapes. For example, Arai helmets fit round heads and AGV helmets fit oval heads. I have a head shape like Bert from Bert & Ernie. The AGV helmet fits me the best out of the brands that I’ve tried.

I think AGV also do an Asian fit that’s supposed to be for a rounder head shape.

Loved Bert and Ernie. 🤣

AGV is definitely not for oval shaped heads. I definitely don't have a round shaped head

I'd give you a little push back on the Arai thing. I have a long oval shape and have worn a Signet-Q and a Defiant-X. I think its model specific.

I ordered a measurement kit from LidPicker which put me in a bigger size despite my measurement putting me in a L is Arai and Shoei.

How did lidpicker workout for you?

Would you recommend the product and service?

Absolutely recommended. Consider that it gives you a discount when purchasing a helmet, some of the initial buy in cost is mitigated. The report you get back is more extensive than the free list.

I like the AGV PISTA but my favorite, the one I find myself grabbing every time I go to the track or a short little street fun run is the Suomy SR-GP Carbon

I tried it cause Pecco, but got a lot of wind noise, which is a symptom or condition(?) of carbon helmets. Some minor QC issues, but that would largely be sample dependant.

I'm possibly looking to the Shoei RF-1400 replacement for my next lid.

My next choice to try would be Fabio's helmet, the Scorpion EXO-R1 Air. It comes with smoke and clear shields, but it has a unique system which allows you to inflate the cheek pads for a better bit. I think its getting replaced in 2023, so I'd probably sleep on it until spring/early summer.

I think Arai needs to come around to the bigger visor scene if they want to stay relevant. My biggest gripe with my Defiant-X is that the field of view, vertically, could be much better. Their designs just seem very early 2000.

For the record, two MotoGP riders invoked. :p

I have a SHOEI RF1300… the quality and fitment of the pads and visor are superior to the Arai RX-7V but sadly puts pressure above my temples.

I agree with all the points above regarding the Arai. Fits me well but needs an update and larger viewing area.

I admit to your statement and completely understand this. I also don’t personally like the AGV helmets. They are not good for me either and most importantly they are not fit for me. I tried many helmets but this one is a bad experience of mine. Although my most friends used this helmet they are completely fine with this one.

I had an Arai RX-7V and had only used Arai previously. I find visibility to be far superior with the Shoei X-Spirit 3 and the AGV Pista GP RR. I'm looking for maximum visibility and I don't currently do long journeys on a bike.
