Completing First Service Early?

So I'm in a bit of a jam! My local dealer has been extremely busy with service appointments and luckily I was able to book one several weeks ago for June 12th. I booked this appointment thinking that I would be able to put on 600 miles before the appointment.

Unfortunately, my bike only has 350 miles on it currently. Is there any harm in completing the first service before the 600 mile mark? The service tech told me that they typically avoid doing it under 400 miles, but he did not suggest rescheduling the appointment.

I'd greatly appreciate any insight you guys might have!

Thank you!

it should be fine, but make sure at some near future, you give the bike a full inspection on all of the major bolt to make sure they are torqued to spec

I have been told that they cannot reset the service reminder until it goes over 600 miles.

Have fun taking your bike back again after the 600 mile mark on the odo to have the computer service light reset.

I got mine done with around 550 miles on it. Once the service was completed I was surprised to see I still had the orange area in the rev band starting at 6k. However, right at 621 miles on the odometer the orange area turned to black and I haven't had to go back to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that getting the service early wasn't a problem as I had the same issue that you are having.

The orange is for warming the engine up.

Once temp reads around 130 degrees that should go away I believe.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't recall the colored areas on the tach changing post 600 service.

This changes when you turn over 1000kms or 621 miles... No temp relation, although I see logic in that absolutely.

Thank you for all of your insights!

So, I am planning to keep the appointment for tomorrow. I have no problem going back to the dealer for the service light at 621 miles, as it is only 1 mile away from my house. The issue is getting an appointment and because it is prime riding season, they are somewhat inflexible in adjusting the date.

Thanks again all!

If you're close to the service interval, pay for the full service and then swing in when the light comes on and get them to reset it. It's a couple of minutes to do...

Yep, when I took delivery, I was told not to come back until I hit 622 miles (one for extra measure). Last year, I took in my Multistrada at EXACTLY 600 miles and they had a ..... of a time resetting the service indicator thing.

So it CAN be done (reset early) but your tech better be a wizard and more patient than the pope.

Mechanically, I think you can never have too many oil changes.

Awesome question, I am in the same situation (though I do have above 400 mi on). Thanks for all the answers, everyone.

Well guys, a quick update! I dropped my bike off this evening at the dealer. I spoke with a different tech and he highly recommended that I wait until I had a few more miles on the bike. They are going to install my fender eliminator tomorrow and then I made a secondary appointment to have the service completed.

He said I could probably get away with it and be fine, but since I'm not really in that much of a rush to put some more miles on it and come back in July.

Thanks again for all the input guys!

150, 500, 1500 and every 2000 after that - of course if you're tracking it needs to be more frequent

never understood the "must do" accusation on any forum because how could anyone force someone to do anything on an internet forum? it's a free country (Canuck land less so) - just sharing what has worked for individuals

it can be done before 622 miles. i did mine at 592. but then service light poped out as soon as i hit 622. so i had to go back to dealer next day morning to turn that light off....
