I'm not sure what the dealers are doing during your first service, DDS (Ducati Diagnosis System) is fully capable of resetting a service indicator early. I know, I do the Managed IT for a few dealerships and work with it.
I had mine done on the 1299 40-ish miles early and 100 miles early on my Monster 1200s.. Either they are worried a warranty audit will bite them in the ass down the road if you have a claim (it won't) or if they are charging you to turn it off, you're getting screwed. Connecting the bike to DDS is a required part of ANY service to a Ducati, the tech just needs to push a button and tell it to reset the reminder...
