Hello everyone! I have thinking about picking up a used 2015 1299s from a dealer not far from me. After doing searches and reading threads here, I'm actually somewhat scared from the strange problems I see.

Stalling engines for no reason
Blow head gaskets
Coolant leaks

Even with a 1 year warranty is buying something used a good option honestly?

buy it, get the warranty , never look back.

problems on forums are what's exposed and brought up. minimal percentile. no one writes about none-issues.

a used bike will most likely have the stuff already taken care of.

my $0.02

cheers, and welcome to THE forum!

Phil

buying used is probably the best option as you've let someone else eat the depreciation.

You might have those issues that you listed or you might not. The majority of owners don't since like Phil said, no one starts a post when everything is running great so the threads on the forum are always skewed towards the negative.

if you're scared of unexpected out of pocket expenses, buy an extended warranty from the dealer or negotiate to work that into the deal

It's an awesome bike for sure, the riding experience is no other but the cost of ownership is what turned me away. If you have money and a good dealer near by, do it up. Ask yourself, why do you want to buy a Ducati?

I've had all the issues and more listed above. The swingarm rubbing pissed me off, and Ducati Everred didn't want to cover it. They blamed it on my chain maintenance and told me to change it to a 520 pitch and a whole new sprocket kit.

It's your money, spend what makes you happy.

3k miles of touring and track days on my 1299. My fifth Ducati. Never had a single issue of any kind. (On any of them).

Bike is amazing and has been perfect since I rolled out of the dealership.

Love my 1299s. Never had any issues with it. Granted I only have 1500 miles on it but every time I see it ,it puts a smile on my face and to me that's worth it.

I toured and tracked the R and had 15k on it. It was great when it didn't have any issues but when I had spontaneous oil leaks, coolant leaks, melted plastic and dash, swingarm rubbing, crappy fueling, lose throttle. All of these issues shouldn't happen in a premium bike. It's just part of the ownership. Like I said, if you got money for repairs, do it.

I've had to make one warranty claim. It was when the exhaust finish started coming off. It was a good excuse for a full Akra system.

if you are not set on the 1299 - i know someone with the most tricked out 1199 tricolore who might be parting with it.

carbon fiber everything - that thing is spotless.

3166km on mine kept in a climate controlled garage, never seen more than 7000rpm's...
13 months old, ......new quickshifter...... new dash......... cuts out periodically when I least deserve it.....

Thank god it still has year of warranty....... if you have loads of cash buy a 1299, if your a normal guy and want something reliable?

Buy a BMW or Jap.....then ride it like you stole it:)

Money is not so much an issue, but I definitely don't want to be fixing the damn thing more than my Jap bikes!

Havent had a single problem with any of my last Ducatis - 1299S ( not at 5000miles, 1199S Tricolore, 1098S, 998S.. All taken on the track and ridden with enthusiasm in the fast group.

Buy it and enjoy it.

never seen more than 7k rpm? Maybe you should take it past 60% of it's capacity and it might like you better. User error imo.

Ive had Ducati's since 78 and had no issues with any of them bar the early model electronics....easy fixed. I ride with a few guy's who have 1299's and know a lot of guy's with 1299's and just the other day I came across a guy who had the stalling problem and he said it was bad. I asked him if he had taken it to a dedicated Ducati only dealer and he said no.

So most guy's with 1299's dont have problems, but the ones who have post a lot about it.

Buy one for sure, it will leave a smile on your face for a week...it is a adrenaline junkies whore:D

3500 miles on mine. Two problems, clutch fluid needed bleeding. A common problem on bikes I have had with with hydraulic clutches. (Cost £5 as I went to the local shop who are aprilia dealers and just lovers of bikes. They all looked at it for a couple of minutes before they did anything!)

And the rear tyre wore out, strange one that! Buy, ride, be amazed, be happy, be scared! It showed me how different motorcycles can be.
