I reconnect the flapper valve when taking the bike to the dealer for service work and last time when I did it I could not remember which hole to put the cable end into.

This is the correct position in the photo so just thought i would share here on the tech section for anyone else that ever has that question.

Happy valve disconnecting.:)

BTW if you are reconnecting and find the cable retracted, just pull on it a bit harder and you will be able to get more slack, then turn the attachment point clockwise against the spring and re- attach as per my photo. Disonnecting it though does not cause starting issues. Its open at startup.

turn the flapper wheel clockwise to take away the tension from the cable, fix it against the spring load, and fiddle out the cable ... take away the fixation and let the spring go. valve is now open constantly.

Thanks Phil, now all that's missing is a picture how-to guide. :D

Why would you reconnect it when taking to a dealer as it's there (evidently) for noise emissions?

Mine seems to actuate unpredictably around 4k at a steady throttle. And opens again 5-10 seconds later.

Worrisome the first time it happened as I didn't know what was going on. But since then, it doesn't bother me - at least not frequently enough to go to the trouble of connecting/unconnecting.

Will your dealer report you to the local LE for noise violations if they find it disabled? :)

Here's one reason:

There is a good reason for reconnecting it. When the dealer plugs the bike into their diagnostic system it shows a fault code. The dealer will then stuff around and reconnect it. Its a two minute job to connect and to disconnect.

Oups....installed a Cox rad guard last winter and chucked the entire servo with the cable.
But come to think of it, it went to my dealer for the upmap after and the tech didn't mention anything about a code.

He probably looked and saw no servo or cable so did not bother saying anything to you.
