Crankcase Oil Leak, Warranty Dept Unresponsive

Help Support Ducati Forum:

you've got a new bike, well only 700 miles so essentially a new bike and you're getting a completely new engine, that seems a pretty good deal to me. They didn't try to cut corners on it like bmw did on the 2012 s1krr (1400 bikes) improperly torqued con rod.

Dealer called me yesterday and said they are getting a new engine for me next week. Said its a small hole in the engine where oil is coming from.. I'm pissed off. Only 700 miles on the bike and after the first service the bike starts leaking oil.. What happened at the first service that made this happen?
I just want a new bike now or them to give me my money back and I'll get a GSXR 1000 like I was going to do in the first place.

Sad face... first big leak forming...

I double checked my oil level and it was a little over from the dealer. Drained some out to get down to the lines, might help :-/.

WIll see if tighting it up will fix it when my headers come in and I have to break it down.

I have the exact same leak with mine. I tightened all bolts on that cover and tightened the rear cylinder valve cover as well. Leak still persists. I will have to take my bike to the dealer and show them.

My oil level though is a bit closer to the top level...but I doubt "Oil Level" is the issue...as a bit more oil in the crank shouldn't cause a leak...that's what gaskets are for.

I'll be going to my dealer soon to show them this....keep me posted TransNone13 regarding your issue and if your dealer found the problem. Thanks!!

I'm going to try and fix this myself. Bought the gasket maker and everything I need. Waiting until my headers come and I will address it then.

Yikes! Loved this bike when I rode it early in the year, but it seems to have NUMEROUS build quality issues. Glad I cancelled my order and purchased a 1998 to trick out.

I truly hope all turns out OK with those that are having problems.

I still hope to pick up a Pani when the tweaks on this 1st year run are sorted.

Thats a bit drastic, only a small hanfull of riders on this forum have had semi-serious issues, and we are but a minuscul percent of all owners. Added to that, forums typically attract those with issues because they are looking for help, or just want a place to complain.

issues are ALWAYS magnified on a forum as problems will always be talked about more than no problems.

My bike's been problem free since purchase, 3500 miles 4 track days so far.

So I noticed a stripe of oil on my exhaust can and luckily my bike hadn't caught on fire so I took it into the dealership to get it checked out. They said the oil was coming from the crankcase and that they'd file a warranty claim with Ducati NA.

2 weeks later and no response whatsoever from Ducati. Has anyone else had problems with getting Ducati to respond to warranty claims? Anyone else had any major oil leaks as of yet (other than the guy whose 1199 caught on fire)?

I'm rather irritated by this considering that I use the bike to get to work faster (15 minutes via HOV vs 45 minutes by metro). Not to mention that the bike only has 1900 freaking miles on it.

I also have a potential crankcase oil leak issue. My dealer found it when I had it serviced. I just took it in today. They only work 2 days a week in the service department for winter hours here but they have been great regardless. I just hope they replace the engine and don't rebuild it if it needs to come out to fix it.

Exactly. What's the big deal ? No need to replace the bike a new engine is a great result .
My BMW S1000 rr on the other hand is the perfect example how not to handle a issue .

I talked with a guy involved with BMW in the USA, apparently BMW cut corners on the hours the fix would take, so dealers were losing money on the con rod deal and not happy.

For sure they did and they would not negotiate at all hence the reason I am riding a Panigale now .
My RSV4 has it's fair share of issues as well including oil leaks .
I had a first model 1098 and the serious whineing at the time regarding issues the Panigale issues seem few and far between .
The Jap bikes have issues as well it all depends on how the issues are handled .

the first year rsv4 seemed to have several issues with oil leaks. They seemed to have sorted for my 2011, my rsv4 was perfect, and I miss that bike but couldn't keep it and the pani!

Even though I've had a small issue which ducati has absolutely been awesome about service, the only thing I would change if for an R model. I was never a ducati fan in the 996/998 era and always rode yamaha's. I am so happy with this purchase and will be purchasing a Multistrada is spring. I also sold for my dealer 6 other bikes to my friends. It's been a while since I had a love affair with a motorcycle(figuratively speaking). Despite any issues I absolutely love my bike. I want to purchase an 848 track bike in spring also if I can swing it. This brand has come so far in terms of quality and always have been gorgeous, I will never buy Jap again. Just my 2 cents

curious as to why you'd opt for an 848 for a track bike, the pani is perfectly suited to the track, you could always cut it down to the lower hp displacement

Got my bike back with new engine now my throttle response sucks!

I sold my pani because all these minor problem with. the tail light cover come loose after 4000km , when i turn the steering the horn plug come out , to short wire. when it rain on the cluster it come with fog , the bike smoke on cold start . the bike have 8000km now.

Mine is in the shop for the oil leak. They seem willing to fix the issues, there are just a lot. Personally, I've only had a few, but I expected it to be honest. Overall pleased so far...

If it were a option, I would consider a HP4 trade... but I have yet to see another person with a Pani outside of a glimpse. I saw ONE riding up in Tucson... I like the fact they are unique. Although, I doubt I will see many Hp4's lol.

That sucks. What did they say about it?

The said they did a standard base tuning when they put the new engine in but to bring it back in and they'll take a look at it. I'm going to take it in this week when it's a little warmer. (Friday maybe)

Hi TransNone13...were they able to sort out your leak problem? I have the same exact leak.
