Custom exhaust

that right corner of the mudguard looks really close to the pipe... may just be the angle.

It is. Like I said just kind making it and then I'll go back and add or take away where I need to

I commend you for taking on this project! I too, thought about fabricating my own header pipes using pie cuts. Although, of course, doing so is limited by equipment and experience and....patience, lol!

Since you don't have an actual example on-hand to model after, I understand there will be some trial and error involved. My lust after this type of fabrication comes from the Storm Exhausts (UK) fabrication that others have posted (albeit using Ti). It seems they also fabricate their own silencers now as well, whereas I believe last season they ran w/Akrapovic cans.

Looking forward to more progress... :)

Thanks man! I'm confused on the equal length issue. That pipe is for sure not even close to equal length. That back pipe is waayyyyyy longer

Nope majority of the race systems the back is much longer than the front. I'm assuming because the vertical cylinder flows more because of the nature of these motors. I'm assuming the extra length is to help balance that? Not sure but all of the actual race systems the back is much much longer

Agreed.

Pipe diameter also plays an equal role to length. For 2-1 aftermarket system, I noticed the vertical cylinder, although a longer pipe, usually has a larger diameter. All together, I suspect it has something to do with timing the exhaust pulses when it reaches the collector, among several factors, including optimizing efficiency/performance/??? at some selected RPM range.

But we will surely need to see (& hear!) a video of your open header set up!

Wow, impressive work. I don't want to know how much time you already spent :)
Any plans what to do with the lower fairings?
No muffler at all?

About 50. Mostly staring at wondering how to fit 3in pipe lol. I have plans for baffles if it's too loud

And as far as the fairing. It appears I won't have to cut too much. But I'm sure I'll have to make a couple brackets so it's not floppy.

wouldnt you also be getting more back-pressure on the vert cylinder given all the extra bends?

Yup that's the idea. Since that's the more efficient one taking more of the airbox. Trying to balance them out. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but that's the only reason I can see for it.

the only way i'd support that vague theory is with measured flow data for each cylinder.

i c nothing vague about a pipe angled sharply up and then doing a tight U-turn over longer distance where it finally bends :p

pipe shape does shape the gasses, but the baffle is kinda vital too..... maybe Austin Racing can chime in here ¿ ¿ ¿
