Which jacket do you guys prefer for protection and airflow?
Dainese Super Speed Tex
Rev'It! Tornado

I'm considering both, but am having trouble deciding. I already have a Wave G2 back protector, so maybe the Dainese is the way to go. However, it would be nice to have some CE Level 2 armor installed.

I have been wearing the Dainese Super Speed Textile in the black/white/red for about 6 months now here in Hawaii. I sprayed the white part with some ScotchGuard almost immediately so the white part is staying white. Excellent airflow, zippers are excellent, and overall I am satisfied. I bought a size 58, the same as my AStars jacket I have and it fits perfect. The only down side to the jacket is the sleeve liner. When I put the jacket on sometimes the inner liner will bunch up in such a way that the liner is exposed beyond the cuff and I have to slide my arm in and out to push the inner liner back where it belongs. My forearms are about 13 inches in circumference at the widest point so your mileage may vary. The fact that the sleeves do not have a zipper near the cuff exacerbates the issue. There is a snap but even at the largest opening it still happens. I use it daily to commute and besides this small annoyance I would highly recommend it. I also like the built-in reflective strips-hardlly noticeable in the daylight but does the job at night. Lastly, I don't think anyone makes a more stylish jacket than Dainese, if that's important to you.

Never tried those two but IMHO the most ventilated and cool (temps) jacket I have EVER worn is the RS Taichi GMX Motion !! Very well built, many safety items, perforated and many members here can attest to its comfort as well. Actually, several AMA Teams went to Taichi this year including Josh Hayes.

RSJ825 GMX MOTION VENTED LEATHER JACKET / RS TAICHI

Best jacket Ive ever owned by far, so thought Id throw that in for ya Dodge! :)

Thanks and very interesting about the liner. The widest part of my forearm comes in at about 13.5 inches, so I'm likely to suffer from the same issue as you with the liner. I have a Dainese leather jacket, so I'm guessing that the mesh jacket will be hung up when the temp dips into the cooler regions.

I have a perforated leather Dainese and it doesn't move air at all. I wonder what's different about the Taichi GMX Motion.

I should say that my Dainese perforated leather does a great job at speed....it's sitting in traffic where it gets rather stuffy. My commute involves a fair amount of sitting, which is why I'm looking into the textiles. I'd like to try and stay fairly comfortable while sitting at a light, if possible.

Ok here is my .02 I have the revit airwave jacket. It's the same as the tornado except it doesn't come with a liner. I don't ride in the winter so I don't need a liner so I thought that was a waste and saved a lot of money. I would highly recommend it.

To chime in again I have the rs tai chi gmx motion jacket. Hands down the best ventilated leather jacket out and it's half the price of the alpine stars tech air jacket.

If you want a leather get rs tai chi. They also make a gmx motion light. If you want textile get rev it.

How does the rs taichi compare to your airwave when not in motion?

BTW if you wear a long sleeve shirt the sleeve liner will not bunch up and it doesn't do it every time I put it on. Usually only when its hot and humid, which around here is about half the time. Do you have someplace local to try them on? You may want to look in the mirror if you plan on buying the Tornado or Airwave ;-)

I have the super speed jacket and have been wearing it for over a year now and love it during the hot temps. Its flows tons of air and has excellent protection. Its my go to jacket here in the hot SoCal weather. It goes great with the Dainese Drake Air textile pants. I wear this combo most of the time when I ride. Its a great alternative to my leather pants or leather suit because they both have excellent airflow and protection. Highly recommend them both.

when not in motion the airwave is not as hot. its made for summer hot weather riding with full air flowing open meshed areas. the tai chi is a fully perforated jacket when you are moving is the best around. it also comes with a liner that blocks the wind for cooler riding.

however you are comparing apples to oranges. the tai chi is a full race jacket with proper Armor while the airwave is a textile jacket with minimum armor.

I have the Rev'It! because Dainese doesn't like fat people. The Tornado is cut a little bigger than it's rated size and it's quite comfortable. Quite happy with the purchase. Didn't think I'd like it as I'm used to dead cow and don't wear textile very often, but when it's hot and you don't want to sweat quite as much......

FWIW, I bought the Cycle Gear specific model which isn't called Tornado, but it's the same jacket in a different color. They call it "Force" but the inside tags call it "Tornado CG" I guess CG wanted a bit of drummed up exclusivity....but it's generally on sale for $229 versus the list price of $329....or if it's full price they throw in a set of gloves.

Good to know about pricing...I saw it at my local CG for $280.

Not true unless you are morbidly obese. Hate to admit it but I have a 40 inch waist and I have more than enough room in my Super Speed size 58. 6'2" 245. I'm starting my diet tomorrow:)

I have a little less waist but a LOT more shoulder than you, so I usually end up around 52 or 54 (62 or 64 Euro sizes) to be comfortable.

Damn you for making me spend money. Just went out and ordered a pair of Drakes. Hope they're good!

this is my gear setup as well.. the pants are kinda hot tho.. those pockets by the knees dont flow air as much as i hoped for.. perhaps because i went for a tighter fitting size..
but the protection is great and i feel safe in them.. walked around in the pants for a whole day after riding from NY to PA reading airport for WW2 weekend and no complaints
