DB Killer / baffle for Akrapovic

I know this is an old post, but I am wondering if anyone has direct experience installing this 96481631A kit into the Akra pipes. How does one fit the conical cheese grater part? It must be from the front of the can, no?
I have the longer version of the baffles if you are interested. It doesnt have the cone shaped one tho. Pm

I had my dealer install the larger baffles and I can tell you it way nicer to ride. I loved the open pipes but on long rides and riding on the highway at 90 holy hell it was like putting your ears next to the pipes on a dyno pull. It’s like 8k rpms for ever. much nicer with the baffling in.

The longer one goes in the right pipe, which is straight. The cheese grater cone goes in the left pipe -- removed two springs and pulled off the "silencer" (slip-on type end) and the cone drops inside and is held in place between the silencer and the end of the pipe when it's slipped back on. The third part is a little end cap for the end of the left "silencer", so both sides have the same-looking exit holes. Maybe the slightly smaller diameter also affects the sound, I don't know.

I'm talking about the DP kit #96481631A for the Akra full system here.

It got dark, so i haven't gone for a ride yet. I will let you know tomorrow!

yeah let us know what you think . I need to look up that part number and see if it’s the same kit I got.

Update: The dB killers don't drastically change the sound levels, but they take the edge off mid-throttle sound. They do make the idle a bit tinny -- you can hear the exhaust whistling through the inserts. But with a bit of throttle the nice throaty sound is still there. Overall, I agree with @Somefun -- the inserts make the levels a bit easier on the rider. I'm leaving them in for street riding. Worth the money, easy to install.

I fabricated baffles wrapped in fibreglass that get my V4R down to 99dB for trackdays at Calabogie Motorsports Park.

Learned the hard way last year. I showed up with the akrapovic dbKillers installed and failed the sound test with 108dB. The soundcheck guy there knows “the panigales with wings” are too loud and measures each one with a decibel meter. During the test if you go over 100db at 11,000rpm for the V4R you don’t get on track.

Hey Ryanfavro, that's a very nice solution. Is the AKRA still original and do you use the larger diameter in the front to put extra material in or did you make a complete new insert for the mufflers. Now you get to 99dB at 11000rpm? That a very good silencer than, and no issues with the engine (too much backpressure maybe). I'm very interested in this solution, so please some more info. I have now a dBkiller in front of the muffler and one in the end (homemade) but still too loud. Got from 108dB to 104dB, but need to get to 100dB. Also learned the hard way, thanks in advance.

Akras are still original (full system). Definitely a loss of power but the ecu compensates. After a couple of sessions most of the fibre glass burns away. Repack if anyone complains

The "new" akra DB killers for the V4 is oem part number 96481631A, consists of 3 parts, a long db killer for one side and a short db killer and a conical grate for the other side.

See the attached picture (picture courtesy of Android853sp)
Are you supposed to remove all three or the conical stays in and the end baffles (long and short) come out?

Hi Paddymon. Is it definitely the left side that the cheese grater goes into? In other words the pipe that is horizonal to the ground, versus the right which rises up at an angle?

A guy out of the netherlands makes the muffler attachment that slides onto Akra headers for 1000 euro. Very easy to swap in and out. Looks ugly but its 95 db while on track. I was able to ride at sachsenring with no issues.

that's the way to go.

i was wondering, if the SPARK with similar muffler position, would be able to get there with a different end can.

Soda0- Yes, I just checked and it's as you describe. The reason is: the orifice on that side exits the can at an angle, so there is no room for the traditional-style baffle on that side. It's too long and would hit the inside side.

To me the muffler is 10x better looking than the red rear sets or the gold wheels lol

The thing I love about that picture tho is the V2 with the Termi full system. 95db on the track!
Think about how restrictive that system must be...

I fitted the Akro "new" baffles and noticed that the chain is very close to the top of the left silencer. If I put the bike on the footrest stands so that the wheel is fully extended, the chain will touch the silencer with just my finger pressing down on it.

The chain is a bit slack, so will tension that, it will help a bit, but I noticed that the silencer is not quite all the way home on the pipe - there is about a 3 mm gap, probably caused by the baffle. I tried tapping the silencer with a rubber mallet, but probably need to warm the bike up.

I don't think this will make a massive difference to the chain situation, but I might try it without the baffle installed (I only recently purchased the bike - 2020 V4) to see if that puts the silencer into a better position relative to the chain. I think the rear sprocket is a couple of teeth oversized too, which isn't helping.

Has anyone else experienced clearnance concerns with their Akro systems on the V4 please? Thanks
