As we were sitting under the EZ Up at The Ridge...watching it pour...our thoughts turned to what we could be riding on. I was going to get a set of rains from the Pirelli guy...500 bucks. Another rider felt a set of something like Michelin Pilot Road 4's would be attractive....more versatile and would last longer. Seemed to make sense....

Would appreciate your thoughts....

Pirelli rain tires have sips through out the whole tire and its VERY soft compound made to ride fast around the track. PR4 is dual compound tire that rides great in the rain for the streets but not at the track. The rubber is harder and the sips near the edge of the tire won't be able to let water pass through at high lean angles. If you wanna track in the rain, get rain tires. Don't risk it.

Of course, the problem with full rains is that it had better damn well be wet (standing water!!) all the way around the track - and not drying - or your screwed.

(Don't ask how I know....)

Rains are great, had a rained out day last month and went 4 sessions on new rains and one can hardly tell they've been used. Ran in wet mode and never had ABS kick in. TC light was on all the time, next time I'll try to run a lower setting.

I use Pirelli rains for damp tracks and full wets for when it's pissing down .The Rains still work well on a drying track I think they are a SC2 compound .

Does the Michelin aspect ratio of 190/55 meet the width of the actual Pirelli SC and or the Dunlop Q3's?

The reason I ask is that the Michelin 3CT were fantastic tires on my 848. I'm loving the new Q3's but it never hurts to know in case a deal comes along.
