Hey guys, went down on my 1098S last year and as a result I paralyzed my right arm (for life), now I still get around on my hyper but I've had to get a custom centrifugal clutch installed so i can ditch the clutch lever and move the throttle and brake to the left bar. I'm currently clutchless up and down shifting but hope a new ignition cutout and auto blipper I'm installing will assist in that.

Despite the fun of the hyper around town and mu NC700DCT for long distances (MUCH easier to ride as its an auto), I'm lusting after the Panigale. My only concern is the fly by wire throttle. Can anyone who has knowledge of what parts it's comprised of and it's working take a guess if its possible to move it to the left bar? It'll not only have to physically be able to be moved and also "reversed", so that being on the left bar won't result in the twisting "off" give it gas and twisting "open" shut the throttle. With the hyper and NC700 this was as easy as switching the cables at the carbs, but alas the panigale and it's fly by wire may not be possible. Please tell me I'm wrong.

PS Does the clutchless up and down shifting on the "S" model work good?

I had the throttle off mine as a result of a get off, it is in a box of spares with cosmetic damage. It is a rheostat, they are a fly by wire, it looks to me like it would be an easy switch over, if push came to shove you could slide it over the left bar backwards. Steve

I can ride around all day without using the clutch on the 1199 except for coming to a stop and restarting from a dead stop.

Fly by wire should be easy to move from one side to the other. But I've never done this, so it's only a theory at this point.

Congrats to you for continuing to ride. I'm pretty sure I would just buy an S2000 or some modern equivalent convertible.

Clutchless upshift/ducatiquickshift/DQS is available on all models including base. It's pretty seamless and although I own the R the base is sooo modified and full of goodies you won't be missing anything.

Though I absolutely hate hearing of permanent OR temporary motorcycling injuries, I'm happy to see that it hasn't stopped you from riding. Way to go. I would think one armed riding would not be possible, but I had a one-armed dude (one arm Willie) FLY past me on a supremely technical section of singletrack during an XTerra race years ago. Unreal.

Moving the throttle from one side to the other will only require extending the electrical harness, but you'd be stuck rotating it forward to give the bike throttle. I'll take a pic and post it in a few....

I think its remarkable that its possible and I take my hat off to you sir!! That is awesome that you can do this... You have my utmost respect..

After pulling the part and doing some armchair engineering, I see nothing that should stop you from getting the Panigale.

This is the 'interior' view of the Panigale's throttle--and the picture is of the side that faces 'outward' on the right clip on. There are four of those trapezoidal knobs inside the throttle housing. Two are stationary and the two marked by arrows rotate counter-clockwise.

In order to get the throttle to rotate properly the easiest option I can see would be to mount the throttle on the end of the clip on on the left side, so that the outside faces inward. It would look a little strange, but it would work. It would require:

Removal of the bar end weight
Extending and re-routing the electrical harness through the interior of the clip on (easily accomplished)
Re-drilling the left-side clip-on for the inside tabs that hold the throttle body housing in place, as in the pic below:

Relocation of the left side turn signal switches to somewhere else to give you the space you need on the bar. Or getting a longer bar. Or cutting the stock plastic throttle tube so it's shorter. Or even something like this might give you enough space.

Out of curiosity, would you ever consider using the rear brake lever to actuate the clutch? Being that the Panigale's front and rear brakes can be linked by just using the front brake (in certain settings in the ABS menu), having the ability to clutch with your right foot (at least when stopping at a light, etc, not necessarily for shifting) would be more helpful than a rear brake lever....

Antihero: Thanks man for the thorough post... I did consider mounting with the assembly at the end but how would I route the wires? Maybe some type of lever guard like on dirt bikes? Do they have any for the panigale yet?

Shame there aren't push/pull cables as on older bikes, would make this a cinch... for reference here's how I did the NC700: https://plus.google.com/u/1/photos/106416004152673847601/albums/5886933962466442833

The hyper was even easier cause the throttle assembly was a separate piece than the switches.

As far as the clutch, with the centrifugal clutch, and the dqs, theres no need for a clutch... I start the hyper, pull the kickstand up, shift into first and at idle it just sits there, I then give it a little throttle, and at about 2,250 rpm the clutch starts to grab and the bike move forward. At 2,500 the clutch is fully engaged and I can run thru first, clutchless upshift into second, etc, etc... when I stop I just clutchless down to first, and when the rpm's get under 2,250 the bike is effectively in neutral.
I do miss shifting with a clutch, but I don't feel comfortable without a front brake, and with my dirt background I use my rear brake more than I'd ever use a clutch.

Cool to hear about the centrifugal clutch. As for the wires, you could drill a hole in the clip-on and route through the top or bottom. Send me a PM if you want my spare throttle body to examine. It doesn't have the tabs to 'lock' it into the stock bar and it doesn't have the actual grip-body, but the bulk/main piece (in the pic) is there, along with the harness.

Oh and was definitely not suggesting eliminating the front brake!
