Do your carbon fibre pieces have pin holes in it like this?

I bough a replacement carbon fibre rear mud guard from Ebay. Mostly because of the additional carbon fibre pieces that this person makes and I'd like to keep all the carbon fibre parts looking the same.

Anyway, the new pieces arrived today and I was disgusted to find that you could see light through the weave. This is obviously because the weave had been stretched and wasn't sitting correctly, however when I emailed a message back to the seller his response was that it is typical of carbon fibre to do exactly that. I say this is BS. So has anyone else bought carbon fibre pieces that look like this?

I also attached a second pic of it fitted to show that its not just a poorly made product but doesn't fit well either.

Any recommendations for other people that make a decent product? I want to replace the heat shield around the rear exhaust with a carbon fibre product but it has to be the 2013 heat shield...

Yeah that is BS, the eBay seller is selling crap. How long have they been a seller and what kind of feedback rating? I've been hosed with fiberglass backed CF. When I asked WTF, they responded: "you can send it back if you like". They didn't give a .... wheresoever, scumbags cheap, merchants. If I were you, send it back and ask for a refund. Also what I love about PayPal, every issue I have raised, I have won against lackluster products or not as stated.

too few layers is the culprit... now that's a way to save on quality and cost...

I did purchase from eBay and had the same results good thing I did not purchase a lot of carbon fiber, Air Duct Covers won't fit and poorly made. (Seller from Hong Kong). I'll never buy from him again. Went with DP carbon fiber instead. (Shock Guard. Air Duct Covers. Rear Fender. Ignition Switch Cover. Clutch Case Cover. Swing Arm Cover. Generator Cover. Sprocket Cover). Some DP CF you can see light through it. I'll send some pictures.

A good piece made of carbon doesn't look like that one (I'm a fan of carbon pieces)...so I agree with whom said that it is BS.
Regarding the misalignment it is justified if you mount also the swingarm cover. In that case you need a spacer below the last screw of the mudguard

That is some ...... quality...

But the question is...

How much did you pay for it? Perhaps you are getting what you are paying for.

If you pay top dollar, then you get premium quality. You pay peanuts, you get that ...... quality, or you've been ripped off.

+1 - I'd throw that stuff out and put the plastics back on if it were me. At least those fit right and aren't transparent. There are a few dudes on the forum selling good stuff or you can go DP.

Buy cheap, pay twice. There are literally only a handful of companies making good quality carbon fibre parts. These are: Lieb Speed, CDT, Ilmberger, CM Composit and MS Productions. I have my preferences, but all of these are well known companies and two of these companies make exceptional quality parts. Not cheap, but as most have already mentioned on here, you get what you pay for, and if it's cheap there is usually, 99% of the time, a very good reason for that.

Well it probably was cheap, right?

Cheap does most of the time have some draw backs............................

At least you noticed it, most don't know better and assume that's just how it is.

If you need good stuff then we are here to help.

Better to pay a little bit more and get the DP parts...the carbon is stronger and the fit is better. I once bought a chain guard for my cbr1000rr and could only use half of it because it was so warped. 60 bucks tho. lol

That's what happens when you cheap out. I have $7000 in CDT carbon and it's all perfect.

I can't remember how much it was exactly. Approximately $200.
The seller has offered me a full refund. The customer service is fine. They seem to think that this is a quality product and I simply wanted a second opinion.

I will check out the other shops and see what I can find. The main reason I don't want DP parts is because I prefer the gloss carbon fibre over their duller finish.

You should see the quality of the carbon from Ducati Performance in the early 90s before it became a fashion accessory. Pinholes, thin coating, but really light.

I believe you're supposed to start those posts with .....

"Now when I was a lad...."

:p
