DQS: missed some shifts...

how would that help when you don't pull the clutch in when quick shifting?

bikes have dog gears and you only need the clutch when starting from a stand still. any bike can shift without the clutch. all the quick shifter does is cut timing to momentarily remove power to allow the shift lever to move the trans into the next gear without having to remove throttle to unload the trans, you can keep it pinned. completely unrelated to the clutch.

the quick shifter doesn't delay power application forever so you need to make a positive shift. do not leisurely click the next gear, if you want to do that then pull the clutch in. the dqs is meant for full throttle shifts that you bang into the next gear.

also, make sure you completely remove pressure from the shift lever after making a shift. if you maintain pressure until the next time to shift it may not engage fully into the next gear. so remove pressure completely, then preload the shifter with your foot slightly, when it is time to shift bang the next gear firmly then again remove all pressure and then redo it for the next shift.

point being, the issue you are having has nothing to do with the quick shifter mechanism. it is user error.

I concur with my learned colleague.

since i switched to GP shift, never seen again. before a few times, but i could tell that i didn't shift "with 100% intention to switch gears" ;)

now that it's reverse, i just go "tap / tap / tap" through the gears.
oh, btw, the shorter interruption with the tuneboy might help, too... :D

+1 - the key for me in stopping this was to shift like I mean it. Also +1 on the S1krr quick shifter. That sucker is waaaay nicer than the Pani DQS.

Quick shifters on IL4's are always sweeter than on twins since there are twice as many combustions in 1 RPM.

It's even more pronounced given the higher redline/rpm capability of the I4/S1000RR....

1199 makes 183 combustion events at 11,000 RPM
S1000RR makes 450 comb. events at 13,500 RPMs

what makes it even worse is the 1199 combustion event is much bigger than the S1000RR.

1199 - Bore = 112mm Stroke = 60.8mm each cylinder holds 599.5cc
S1000 Bore = 80mm Stroke = 49.7mm each cylinder holds 250cc

That is a 2.4x more powerful combustion in the 1199.

Back from a great ride, tried to bang it harder when shifting and DQS did his job perfectly tonight! Got a bit surprised when the front came up real fast from 2nd to 3rd with the DQS in race mode! Was racing and pulling away from my buddy on a Rsv4 factory when it happened... Great Time! :D

I agree w/Phil. Though if you're going to stick with the standard shift pattern, drop the shifter down another half inch or so and you'll have more leverage.

Now if you want to talk missed shifts....you haven't seen nothing until the bearing on the Gilles rearsets locks up on you. Try getting home from the track in one gear: sixth.

Me I was in 4th and at the Pub, not the track, lol.

I haven't taken delivery of my Tri yet , so just wondering, can the kill times be adjusted on the Panigale DQS ?

mine was in 3rd in the mountains. found a gas station with tools, and 2 Goldwing riders with a can of WD-40. flushed the bearing, rode home.

warranty replacement from Gilles already installed.

@the guy with the man parts piercing:

no, not on the bike.

tuneboy software lets you adjust it though.
