Ducati 1199 R - WSBK

The air restrictors is part of a balancing act by WSBK to even up the Twins and 4's that will change soon. Ducati hates the things, but has found away to try and negate the effects , which allows it to be ready as the rules change.

Ducati Corse WSBK Director Ernesto Marinelli,

" For sure it is better to have the extra 2 mm more but it is not going to make much difference, not 5 km/h more on the top end, as it is only. A couple of millimetre more, "
" it would be better not to have it than a 52mm restrictors. To change from the 50 to 52mm would mean a new part has to be fitted. We have already made it, because we have to be ready. It is one metallic part that you put inside the head."

He confirmed that to remove the restrictors altogether would mean re engineering " then it would be a bigger change because you have to use the heads without anything in place of the restrictors, so we would have to change all the heads, as we do not have enough material in the intake port. It would leave sort of a thin film of aluminium inside. That is not safe, so you would need to change the heads to have no restrictors"

As you can see it is a nightmare for Ducati with a new engine they can't see its full potential.

Ducati will not give up though that is for sure.

jong jong jong ! :)

A few pictures from last weekend. Were guests at Alstare. Good food and hospitality at its best. Also just came out of the blue and you say no no to. What a top weekend. We were allowed in the pit box and with Checa and Badovini in the picture. Rick was allowed to sit on the bikes.

The Panigale has problems with breathing and the cooling, radiator surface. And one must still use the restrictors of 50 mm. In recent years, the four-cylinder only become faster. After Monza, they are allowed to go 54 mm and then watch them what the differences are. Panigale of Checa ran on Assen 275 and the BMW and Aprilia 292. In the Superstock 1000 no problems.

Saw Falappa again.

now that is a treat! :)

Myself:

Weight: 90kg
Riding skills: I ride a 1.2L because I'm slow in corners (for now)
Eastern Creek max speed 250kmh over the 800m straight  w/o pushing as hard as the bike could

Carlos Checa:

Weight: 69kg
Riding skills: he rides a 1.2L because he's an official ducati rider
Assen max speed 278kmh over a 600m straight

...that's what I call air restrictor...

hi nikt,

a base with superstock timing and termy sistem ran 298 GPS KM/H at the back of the Aragon1,7 km straight. Checa's ran 310 300 m futher down the line ! for the moment the WSBK is not stronger then the SS...

1199PanigaleR, Thanks for posting the wonderful pics glad you guys had a great time. So I take it there's a bit of drama between Checa and Ducati? If anyone to bring back, I would be considering Bayliss. Biaggi to me is an Aprilia Rider, I just don't feel all warm and toasty inside knowing that Biaggi is helping develop the 1199. I feel as if that's Bayliss' job.

I also miss Haga. He's one of my all time favorites. I wish he'd come back to WSBK and ride for Ducati.

There is no drama between Checa and Ducati. They struggle with the new bike. Saw Ernesto Marinelli in the pitbox and I was introduced to him. After qualifying and race it was extremely busy. A lot of time is taken in debriefing and analyzing. Also Badovini was busy overlaying graphs with his engineers.

I think it would be best to remove the restrictors, revise new heads and go. If the Panis would fly then, just add weight again. That is the most simple solution.

Are we seeing a potential motogp desmo - issue arise with the Panigale's due to the frameless engineering of the bike?

My personal frustration with Ducati is in that, they "fixed" something that wasn't "broke" to begin with. Shaving weight is undertandable but if the trellis helped win races on track, why the heck would you want to do a bike without it? I understand being on the leading edge of technology and differentiating your product from that of the competition but come on if you are winning why change up? I just hate seeing such a successful, race bred company have be second best to mediocracies.

Guys our street bikes are exclusive, and Ducati's reputation of being such an outstanding company is not purely but mainly based on the fact that we race and win!!! I don't want just a bike that looks good on the street, I want a bike that is a known winner on the track (916, 996, 998, 999, 1098, 1198). If all I wanted was show, I would be a proud owner of MV. I am not losing faith, but I don't want to settle for second best either.

VIVA DUCATI!!!!!!:)
