Ducati Aero Podcast

Was listening to it today on the drive in to work. Still have about half to listen to tommorrow. Very interesting!

Wow ya, this is interesting.
'Ducati has always had front end issues, aero solves it. Everyone else is trynig to catch up but copying is not working for them.'

The comments about the "hole" left behind by the bikes effectively removing the slipstream and basically no air to cool the front tire explained a lot of last seasons woes for Quartararo.

This is a great podcast. About the Aero.
Also if you'r interested.
I posted this before. Go find Simon Crafar on Rustys Garage podcast. Another great listen and a few laughs as well.

Talking about the "whole" lest being by the bike and the over heating if following. Makes me think back to looking at the rear of the Ducati behind the seat and at the time thinking it was odd. But now I think it may be meant to disturb or alter the air in its wake.

Aero in racing has been aside from assisting in the obvious “defensively strategic” for decades. Necessary in specific forms of 4 wheel competition and now obviously necessary on the bikes. Just keep it off the street or at least keep it subtle. Great bike but this looks ridiculous and for all but a very few who bought one, completely irrelevant to the functionality of the bike.

That abomination looks like someone hamfisted SL wings on a base but didn’t install them in the proper orientation.

Agreed. But to each his own!

Guy bought a base and went for the "Garage SuperLeggera Package"
LOL

This is a factory SL, they ghetto glittered that thing from the factory. Knock that .... off. 1299SL, Desmo, 1098 all masterpieces. This thing would have been at the top of the list had they not douched the hell out of it with those ridiculous “I wanna be” wings. This isn’t going to get better.

I’m surprised they didn’t put the brake cooling ducts on there, another “must have” street mod. 10 years of new gen SBKs and they still can’t put a decent cooling or exhaust system on it that would make the bike rideable in warm weather for anyone other than the hard core enthusiasts willing to endure for brand recognition and most of the things still leak and have what seem to be incurable electrical issues but FCN-A, we got more wings than Boeing.

LOL I own and fly my own jet. In comparison a new SL is the cost of a skateboard. If I wanted one, I’d buy two. No hatred here, just facts, that bike with those gimmicks is fugly as hell

If you were a betting man, you would be correct. Hey I like the bike but not that much he’ll I haven’t had the slightest desire to play with the V4. For me the 1299 platform and the refinements I have done over the years just keeps getting better. Wait till you see the latest rendition.

+1 the €100k bike looks like the wings are an afterthought to the design. They look like an early AI experimental. I don't much like the looks of the MotoGP front wings either though I'm pretty fascinated by the function & discussion.
The subject of wind, is so beautiful and undeniably a huge part of riding. Hanging off in corners a pilot's body makes a big air scoop with a surface area nearing as big as the face of the bike. I love that feeling - it's the closest thing to flying I know as well as the most surreal. Aerodynamics is massively central to riding.
Down-force and ways to improve traction is simply an extension of that. These last couple of years are very experimental ugly ducklings. It's going to get cool later I'd bet. To me it's just another tool, & should be another part of the design. Like a windscreen. We're moving air. How do we want that to go?

The fact that the racing with elbows between Pecco and Quartararo the final race of 2022 resulted in Pecco loosing half his wings making his bike almost lame, I'd say that design needs some major rethinking. Aprilia is doing a better job integrating though not the prettiest GP bikes ever either. Let's see. They're prototypes.
