too right back in the good old days, the 996 and 748 required a valve check at 600 mile service, OUCH! But in those days the quality control wasn't so great and many times the valves needed adjustment.
It's funny, lots of people one about the 600 mile service now. ca. 99 the 600 mile service with valve check on my 996 was around $400 (1999 dollars too)

My 9th Ducati... if you're old school Ducati rider... its a habit to keep the miles down... we all feared the valve timing service. That service causes Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I needed to ride an R1 for a year as therapy before I got my Pani.
