All,

I am US based and I am facing a delima on what to do.
I have to perform some service to the bike and I need to buy some equipment in order to do so, but I am not sure what to get. Here is a list of what needs to get done on the bike.

1. Troubleshoot P0105 H and V MAP sensor code. Inspect and possibly replace MAP sensors.
2. Troubleshoot exhaust valve and clean exhaust from outside [since it has gotten dirty, needs to come off.]
3. Inspect and replace clutch if necessary.
4. Replace clutch slave cylinder and bleed lines.
5. Replace dashboard screen. [screen cracked due to glove knuckles accidentally hitting it.]
6. Replace tires.
7. Inspect and replace chain if necessary.
8. Replace oil.
9. Remove engine side cover and inspect waterpump gears and replace if necessary.
10. Check air filter and replace/clean if necessary.

Now, I plan on doing all of these items in the next 2-3 months slowly and steadily tackling one problem at a time. Possibly tackling multiple things if they are easier to get to during the process.

My bike usually rests on the side stand in the garage but now I think I am getting to the point when I feel like I need a stand or a lift.

What seems like a better option?
The ducati paddock rear stand is around $300.00 or I can just buy a 1000lb motorcycle lift from harbor freight for $450.

Last time I took it to a shop to fix a bunch of things, it cost me a pretty penny so I decided to just work on it myself on my time. And because of this current pandemic, it seems like it might be the logical thing to do.

What would yall do? Most of these items can even be done without a stand but I feel like getting a lift in the garage might make it more fun to work on and possibly be comfy since I wont have to sit down on the floor and wrench on the bike.

Id get a front and rear stand as a minimum, makes it easy to do tires etc. For a full lift you need a way to secure the bike for stability or do as I do which is a small floor jack under the bike and I leave the rear in the stand but weigh it down. There's lots of ways of doing it, I took the entire front off using that method plus a strop to the ceiling.

So I have both a Pit Bull rear stand, and an SV racing center-lift stand - I have no complaints about either. Based on your upcoming tasks though, I would definitely recommend (pit-bull) front and rear stands. The center-lift stand is great for only a handful of things. The center-lift stand will also severely limit, and in some cases totally eliminate the ability to do some jobs. Plus its got a substantial footprint underneath the bike.

Im fairly sure I know what motorcycle lift you're talking about. That style is definitely enticing. The turn off for me is just how large it is and obviously you won't be able to pull the wheels with it.

Ive got the Harbor Freight stand - works excellent for the garage mechanic, and also the pit bull hybrid SSSA stand for the rear and a forklift stand for the front. I use all at the same time sometimes. The Harbor Freight lift or any lift for that matter does require the ability to restrain the bike for safety, not needed at all times, but again for the bikes safety a tie down would be sufficient. I am looking together the Pitbull hybrid front stand that will lift forklift style on the forks, and/or a center pin under the triple tree. That will help any front end wheel work I would do.

I have Pit Bull stands for basic work; but I highly recommend the Bursig stand if you ever plan to replace the steering head bearings.
If you're going to become a garage mechanic (which is what I did over the last 8 years after buying my 1199) a lift is an absolute blessing. I can't speak to the quality of the Harbor Freight lift, but I have a Handy air lift, which is the best you can get.. Heavy, robust and as a result, very stable. Oh, and I always use the rear Pit Bull stand while on the lift when doing chain maintenance, oil & filter, change or anything else where the rear wheel needs to be elevated or you would benefit from additional clearance under the bike.
I hope this helps.
