Can any Speciale owners please check their front sprockets. After an owner posted up an image on Facebook of their new Speciale, I was intrigued by the unusual looking front sprocket. After much digging around and him giving me the name of his Ducati dealer, they in turn told me that these "silent" sprockets are fitted as standard to the Speciale models only. Here is a link to the manufacturer and some technical info on them. The idea of these sprockets is that the chain partly runs on a rubber inner ring which helps quieten the transmission down and reduce wear.

Here's an image of the sprocket on the owners bike. You can see the indentations where the side plates bear on the rubber ring. The second picture is of the sprocket itself.

Pretty sure they were oem on my 2010 MTS 1200.
Have seen them on several other manufacturers bikes too.

My '19 doesn't have that, and after looking at the spare parts catalog for an '18 S versus '18 Speciale they both are supposed to have part#44910721A.

They’re pretty standard on most bikes. The Jap bikes have black rubber. FWIW, I have changed sprockets on several bikes to non rubber types and can’t say I have noticed any difference whatsoever.
