Ducati Streetfighter 1098S - 2010 (value??)

Hi guys,

I'm planning on buying a brand new Streetfighter S model 2010. It's for a personal collection I won't ride it and won't put any gas in the tank. I just wanted the opinion of experts in terms of value. Do you guys think it will gain lot's of value in the future? I love that bike like every one does it's a unique piece they don't make them anymore... It's a Red/graphite grey. What do you guys think? Will it worth $100K in 10-20 years? How much would you sell that bike today if you'd have it in your garage? Brand new - 2010.

A new 2010....... Hard to say I wouldn't pay more than $12,500 at most.. As far as value down the road that's a tough one. I have a 2012 S and love it but it's not numbered so that could play into it. I'd really have to say it's a gamble
 
You're right on the fact that it's not numbered. I saw a 2012 red brand new last week on eBay motors. It was selling for $20K (buy only option) in Seattle. Looks like the ad is gone... it seems high to me for a 2012 model.
 
bikes are terrible investments and in my opinion the street fighter will never be that collectable due to the fact that they were a bit of a marmite bike( as in you either love or hate them) and mass produced.

No idea on current values of them but for reference look at the current values of the 916 to see future values and first generation with little miles don't go for a lot and thats the bike that saved Ducati and one of the prettiest bikes of all time, there are some values in the SPS and R models but they were numbered bikes.

Ya thats Ducati Seattle, they have been jonseing to get rid of that bike, if you really want it call them and see what they can do for you

Yep... motorcycles aren't a great investment. The streetfighter S model is the meanest model they've ever produced. There's no SP nor R model so someone who collects Ducati's would be looking for an S. The "zero mile" on the dash is really important to make it as rare as possible.

I'd buy it for my personal collection, it looks so awesome I'd stare at it everyday. Then I'll see if I decide one day to get rid of it. The 916 is a good piece too...

I wouldn't buy a 2012 model since it has been updated to make the bike a bit easier to handle. I'd stick with the rough model 2010.

It won't be worth $10k in 20 years. Buy it to ride it or don't bother.
 
the only modern era ducatis that probably have a good potential would be 851, 888s built in tiny numbers and first four valves. Even tho the 888 values have been pretty stagnant for the last several years. I think also first year 916s. - in terms of collectability look at how bad the other ducati superbikes have performed pricewise- the desmosedici the various R model superbikes. huge depreciation. To get real collectability you'd need to go to bevels and such.
 
Just my two cents... The StreetFighter is not a limited-production, highly-collectable piece by any stretch of the imagination. If you buy a limited mileage one and pack it up, it might be what it is worth today in 20 years, or it might go down, but I don't see it going up. It wasn't that desirable to begin with.

For modern collectable Ducati's, a mint, low-mileage, first year 916 would be a safe bet (to hold value). I think the 998R's are going to go up in value, but not a terrible amount. The 851 is a solid bet if its all original and maintained. Maybe a first year, mint condition, euro-spec Monster. The Paul Smart has some potential.

As far as collectible bikes, look at a 750SS, a Vincent Black Shadow, and old Bimmer, some old Harley's with prominence, an old Indian Chief or a Scout with race history.. etc..
 
Buy it to stare at it? Jeez! :eek:

Pretty much the ugliest Duc ever made! Will be worth 3 grand 10 years from now.
 
I had one. 'had'.

Two words: "expanding tank".

And by then I don't think you'll be able to buy a replacement tank then. And if you can, it'll be like $1,500.

I loved that duc with the shift-tech exhaust. A real bad-... bike. But f#ck you ducati on that expanding tank ......... That's why I won't buy another with a plastic tank.

It looks like the US got their Ethanol all wrong:(

It's certainly the meanest naked bike they've ever produced.
And it's the most unique for a great number of reasons despite not being a numbered edition.

None of them are good investments IMO, except for the Green frame and nobody saw that coming.

I think it's priceless, and they'll be prying the key to it out of my cold dead hand:D

Anything that's sought after in the long run, are the things that were not particularly popular back in the day, and were underappreciated as they stood, but they all have distinguishing features.
The SFS fits that bill precisely with a number of unique features.
And they were the first of the type that were mass produced out of the genera, which hasn't become main stream until recently.
Other manufacturers are just starting to catch up now;)

I didn't particularly like mine at the time I bought it, and bought it on it's specs alone as it fitted my criteria perfectly, except for the looks of it.
But I realized how good it was as a bike in it's own right a good while afterward.
The looks of it have grown on me as the bike has endeared itself.

People want to talk about it because it's unique.
And some people think it's a Monster until I explain what it is. Then they're more appreciative of it, and what it is.
When it's parked outside of shops I've seen women stop to look at it in detail.
Kids think it's great, except for the little girls that are frightened by it as I ride past.
So on balance, it must have something going for it that I can't fully understand.

All I know is I love it:)

No Jello, no new maps needed;)

Just put the Termi's on it with the DP ECU and the DP Air Cleaner element and it's good to go:D

There's an update available for the Quickshifter though.
