Dynamic Suspension Questions

Instead of starting a new thread....

Is there one thing (issue) that is common to ALL 1299's?

For example, people have complained about how the ZX10 wont finish a corner on the gas since 2011. And anyone that gets one knows they are going to have to do some geometry and shock work.

The 2006+ GSX-R600/750 ALL have to be raised front and rear, every one of them. Fork extensions are needed and so are shock shims. Where exactly an individual ends up might vary a mm or two based upon personal preference, tires etc. But they all had to be raised front and rear.

Is there a common trait in the 1299s that must be sorted immediately?

It looks like i wont get a practice weekend ahead of time, which means i will show up to the season opener and have two 10 minute practice sessions to get the bike, electronics, suspension, gearing etc dialed in before racing.
I have to tell you that the 1299 seems curiously without any significant issues. My BMW S1000RR was a heavy Pig to get turned in and it needed muscled around, even when the geometry had been corrected as far as I could.

The 1299S is REALLY good. I am looking forward to your reports once you have ridden it in anger, on the track. I suspect your feedback will be of great value to the rest of us.

Chers.

I was in FLAT/FIXED mode, not progressive. I was running full power 205 HP, Race mode, DTC 1, DWC 1, ABS 1, engine braking OFF, front sag 38mm, rear sag 28 mm (Ohlins techs at the track told me to set it at exactly those figures)... That is TOTAL sag, i.e. take a fully unloaded measurement with the wheels off the ground, fully extended... Then take static sag (bike's weight only), then YOUR weight on the bike.. The total difference between unloaded and fully loaded with your weight, is what you want to be 38mm F, 28mm R.

Hope that helps.

Do you recall what the bike sag is?

Just ride it .

Tired of me asking all of these questions yet? :D

I am hoping to do as much groundwork as possible before we actually roll it out on track. With only two 10min sessions before gridding up for the first time, any time I can save will be advantageous.

Thanks for that. :)

I will of course report back with how the weekend goes, what we learned, etc.

I am glad to hear there are no major blatant faults with it. I have ridden it through the mountains a little bit and it felt great. The only thing that jumped out at me is that it turned REALLY fast, like the nose of the bike dove towards apex...sometimes needing input on the bars mid-corner. We might need to raise the front or add some preload, but I will not change anything till I get on track. Everything changes at speed.

Cheers.

Sounds like a preload issue... Time will tell.

Cheers.

thank you

i just wanted to thank 80shilling for sharing his empirical suspension data without reservation. Thank you again for your contribution. I really appreciate it.
