maybe 500 miles ago, my shift lever had been getting stuck in the down position when going from Neutral to 1st..it would happen randomly, not all the time consistently

my first thought was the linkage was loose and possibly binding when everything was hot...as it would only happen at that time - after looking close though, it did not appear that anything was biding at all, and i just let it go

yesterday, DQS quit, the shift lever was stuck in down position, and would not release itself immediately, then it popped up - engine light came on (right side of display) and red service indicator came on (left side of display - just under the red indicator for the side stand, and directly above the RACE mode indicator) - the RACE mode indicator started refreshing continuosly

turned the key this morning, and no engine light, no other indicators indicating trouble

does the 1199 system hold the trouble codes ?

Many codes will clear if they don't reoccur.

The shift linkage just need taken apart, cleaned, and lubed. Add it to your regular maintenance. Pretty normal.

I have had a weird warning fault since new on my R. It has never been there again on start up and the shop have been unable to download any record. Been very annoying. Have just had all the wiring loom replaced in an attempt to rectify, but not had the chance to ride as working abroad.
Believe I will be getting a new ecu also, as the original replacement sent out as part of this works was totally blank. Ducati Italy were sending out units for many of the ranges with no software installed.

I'd like to believe it, but for the engine light, service light & for the Race Mode icon to be refreshing itself doesn't seem like "throwing WD-40" at the linkage is going answer that one.....but I'll admit I'd hope it is :D

I'm not sure about those.

But it's not rare for weird things to happen to a digital screen when it's already annunciating 2 faults.

Typically, most OBD codes hold for 3 engine cycles. Where the engine is started and run for X amount of time without a repeat of the fault. However, it seems that motorcycles...at least the 1199 does not follow this protocol. I've had codes pop up and clear on the same ride.

If you have a Tuneboy setup, you can try plugging it in and using the iPhone app (LogWorks) to read any codes, but I've never tested this on my bike. Done it with the GMC Envoy numerous times.

I'll find out after dealer looks at it - chances are it won't be there...thats been my experience so far at least.....maybe 2015 will make a difference :)

The shifter does stick (maybe i should use the word Stay) in the fully down position without getting an Engine Light or Service Message, and i am fairly certain the nature of it is electronic...as i don't actually feel it binding at all, and it does move freely all the time...to be honest, i just don't know, but hopefully the shop will find it

Sorry to hear that you have this kind of problems :(

It sounds like mechanical problems: stuck spherical bearings or a bad shift rod, or the sintered main bearing of the gear lever.
Ask your dealer to read out the diagnostics, it takes only five minutes.

To avoid mechanical problems in this area, I replaced the bearings with SKF (...... expensive) and a strain gauge quick shifter from Cordona. Works great. Please note on attached picture were I located the electronics.

Turns out the shift lever has an increased distance of travel (versus 2013/14) this causes extra wear on the assembly, so they replaced the shift lever, and footpeg bracket that showed signs of wear - because the lever was sticking in the down position this caused the electronics of DQS to actuate the Engine Light, Service Light, and the Race Mode symbol to refresh

The word at the dealer is they simply do not know why this is the way it is, and they are trying to get some feedback from Ducati - currently being investigated
