What's your favorite tire for your 1199 and why?

I'm not looking for a tire bashing thread - just what you prefer and why? Do you choose one tire over another when the conditions change or do you ride the same brand year around?

Michelin DOT Race Power CUPS.

Choice of profiles, compounds, and all-round performance. Incredible wear and grip.

I actually like the Pirelli's too. And despite the quick wearing compound, I'll take grip over longevity any day, particularly with a bike with this type of HP. I had an extra set of the Supercorsa SC's so I just threw them on and they're even gripper and wear even faster.

Michelin Power One DOT race tires. B front. C rear. Wear better than the Pirellis. Cost less than the Pirellis. Stick better than the Pirellis. Only downside is they're a bit heavier than the Pirellis.

Surprised another person made the switch too. It really is night and day.

Nice Tires

No brainer. The Pirelli's it came with!!

Why? i have been on a Michelin since they came with bike i bought 12 years ago! have had quite a few sets and even did 90 mph in the rain one time, THEY are, to me the best! great compound curvature for street riding!

They're right on the other side of the paddock...why not give 'em a stab? Besides, I've been a Michelin guy since the first Hi Sports fell off the truck in the '80s! They're also the only alternative to the OE Pirellis that maintain the stock sizes.

Night and day, indeed. The Michelins are sticky sumbitches by comparison! My TC light spends a bit less time illuminated than it used to....and it's set on level 2, anyway!

The shoes it came with. Pirelli! Race tires are grippier and lighter but take longer to warm up so may not be the best for the street.

Planning on going down with a customer in February if the weather is decent. If not, it'll be March. Don't know if I'll take the Pani or a race bike, though....or maybe take two?!?

Tires will always be a personal choice but with no hesitation - Pirelli is the only tire for me and my Ducati.

I wouldn't advise it usually, but I even did a wet session at Silverstone on the SPs. Topping nearly 140 MPH down Hanger straight in the wet was a blast.. Made getting pulled up and around Stowe VERY precarious!

Like the Pirellis' but may switch to Q2's. Have them on my 848 and love them.

I'm probably going the same route if the stock tires aren't in my price range. Dunlops have always treated me well. Metzlers were my second choice.
All that said I still prefer this set of stock Pirellis. Two track days and no unwanted tire slippage.
I forget which pair of Pirellis were on the 1098 but I absolutely hated those tires. So heavy in the turns and always losing traction. Not to mention terribly priced.

No other manuf offers the 200/55 in a street tire far as I know, that means you'd have to go to a 190 or a DOT track tire.

If we're talking track or DOT race then Dunlop ntec for slicks and the Michelins as others have said. Try the Bridgestone R10s too, they were great on an S1k and believe they have a 200 rear.
