So where is that roads exactly in the video?

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=bloo...53593,21.643066&hnear=Blood+Mountain&t=m&z=14

The road is 129/11/19. Start at 180 (Wolf's Pen Gap) as mentioned above, and go down the mountain about 4 miles, turn around and do it again. About 1 mile south of 180 on 129/11/19 is an Appalachian trail hiking shop/stop, which makes a good place to meet, get a drink/snack or wait out the LEO's that typically leave the area around 5pm or so. Take a nice leisurely run down the mountain to assess road conditions and check for speed-trap setup LEO's. When clear, have some fun and turn on your camera!

It's Hwy 129 that goes over Blood Mtn.

Pics were shot at overlook at top of Richard Russel Scenic Hwy.

Wolf Pen Gap Rd is Hwy 180 from Suches over to Hwy 129. Not my favorite. Much better from Suches is Hwy 60 up to Morganton and back (bout 50 miles). Fill up there in Suches (premium grade is ethanol-free).

Hey Charlie,

I have been on the 60 a couple weeks ago and the road was covered by tar snakes, those things are very slippery, be careful!! They ruined an amazing ride :-(

North GA is where I learned to ride motorcycle back in the late 80's! The best roads on earth IMO from there north to TN.

Blood Mountain is my favorite, but way to many LEO's on the weekend. Go after about 5pm during the week and you have 3 hours of that road to yourself. Here's a video I made with a friend following me on his '05 R1 about 4 years ago, I am on the Buell 1125R in front.

Can't wait to get the Pani up there to my old stomping grounds. Now with 720 miles on the clock, it is starting to feel less "tight".

Hey Jeff, where is this road? I leave in North GA but I've never been on this one.

Thanks

Tar snakes a fact of life riding roads in the south.

Rode 60 from Suches to Morganton and back several times this year. Didn't notice them as being bad until about a week ago coming back from ECM at Fontana. Seemed to be much more slippery than usual. Just chalked it up to perhaps freshly put down or whatever. Still a great road.

Much appreciated for the info.

I just got back from the Smoky's two days ago on my BMW. A friend and I did a 3700 mile trip. We spent three days in the Tennessee and North Carolina area, and two days in North George (stayed in Dahlonega). Great country.

Agree. I see a lot of tar snakes in Texas and other states. But Georgia does something treacherous to make them much worse than any others. I literally thought I was going to go down at about 15 mph on some the other day. Wish I could remember where, but it was definitely in North Georgia.

that scenic byway is probably RIchard Russell hwy 348 it's spectacular with fairly good road surface and a great mix of tight and sweepers, you can do a great pace on that road, it's kind of got the same vibe as the cherohala, tho less traffic.

hwy 180 - two distinct sections. the one leaving TWO in suches is very tight and has a couple 180 degree hairpins, also very dark in many spots, hate that stretch, wrecked there many years ago on my 996. The other part of 180 is really nice.

YOu can't really pick a bad road up there.

BTW> any of you guys that have been riding up there regular may remember TWO (two wheels only) motorcycle campground. They've been closed for a few years but are about to reopen. No visit to the area is complete without stopping in there for some sweet tea!

Great to hear TWO is coming back; really missed them since they got booted when their long-term lease ran out. Guess the prop owners got tired of seeing the place sitting empty and came to their senses about the true value of the place. Look forward to kicking back on the porch there again soon.

You're right about not being a bad road in the area. I love 60 from Suches up to Morganton; lots of tar snakes on 60 south of Woody Gap but the north end is great. 19/129 over Blood Mtn, 348/RR, 17/75 over Unicoi Gap, all very nice.

Rumor is that Hwy 60 from the rockpile up to Suches is scheduled for new pavement this year. It needs it.

If you run Unicoi gap north to 76, go east on 76 to Hwy 197 and run it back towads Hwy356 and then back into Helen. Nice road. Not well known to people. Great twisties. Great Scenery.

They just put new down and it's still an amazing road.

Thanks

You can keep going on the 76 to Clayton GA, Then you ride on a very twisty and narrow road called "warewoman rd" to the 28. Then take the 28 North to Highlands. It's an amazing ride and you can come back from the 106 and 441 to Clayton.

No tar snakes and very few cars over there.

that's the route I did this past Saturday.

not a huge fan of warwoman but it's definately a very challenging road.

Sounds like a few of us were sniffing around in the same neighborhood last weekend. Rode 28 Saturday, south from Franklin through Highlands and down into SC, then 107 over to 130/281 and back up into NC. Was looking like a great day until my riding partner misjudged a corner and crashed in the first bad hairpin on 281 north of Lake Toxaway. Totalled his VStrom unfortunately, but he escaped with nothing too serious. I had to hightail it over to the Asheville airport to rent him a car to get home in, then drive it back to get my bike and blast over to Robbinsville late at night. Interesting day, if not in the best way... :(

Have been interested in having a spin on 197 west of Lake Burton though, so it's good to know it meets forum standards! :p

I was looking at this weekend with some friends too but weather doesn't look too good right now.
