First Service

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I've had a deposit on an R since December. As it's come closer to delivery time I asked about the first service. A few weeks ago when I asked it was, "about $350." Now that I have it in writing they're telling $396 plus $100 in parts. $496 plus tax for the 600 mile service.

They can go get .......

I would want to see a detailed invoice with an explanation for every dollar. And then I would question them about it. The biggest problem is that people just assume everything will be higher simply because it is a Ducati and dealers aren't held accountable for ripping people off like that.

Any of you people paying $300 for an oil change and bending over need help....
You're talking a $300 oil change...

I could have the fattest wallet in the world and would STILL do my own oil change. $50 online for stuff, and it takes you 20 minutes.

Then either live with the service light or go pay $20 to take it off.

Kinda like the auto shops that want $30 for a conventional oil change, or $100 for a synthetic job when the synthetic oil they use is only $10 more cost to them...

But hey you wanna get .....- it's your butthole :D

Beside the savings I take pride in servicing my own vehicles.

Anybody can use an 8mm wrench and change their oil filter...

I've always done all work myself on every bike that I've owned. I've even built the engines in two of my supermotos and my truck. I'd planned on having the 600 mile service done with the dealer but not at these prices. I'll buy the factory service manual (I've heard it's a $500 CD?) and then DIY.

You're complaining about $225? Is this your first sportbike or what? That is an awesome price!

I agree, Paid $220 myself and was happy with it. Of course I paid the price once for the first service, you can easily do it on your own. it's the hourly rate that they .... you on!

eh heemmm....I got a laughable but not very funny quote this week for my 1299 first service..........-650 chf thats swiss francs but is equal to 675 U.S and 433 pounds sterling.

Thats a bit crap eh?

225 is like free. 450 here.
but these guys need to pay their rent, utilities + pay salaries to their employees too so keep their business running and make money so i dont blame them.

News flash!!! We call them stealer-ships for good reason!! And we all know they make a killing off of us..
Having said that when I go to buy a used machine of any kind I'm always more encouraged to see consistent dealer service records.. I do think it makes a difference on the resale.. Not to say you can charge more but there's more confidence for buyers and sellers with dealer records

Free because they messed up the delivery of my bike and just overall the experience was a disaster. Would have cost $450 though.

Got quote for $260 for my 1st service which I could be worst. i'll be doing myself after this

Asking $400 at one of my local dealers...what a shame, I'm going to have to negotiate the price of an oil change.

I'm curious about the service warning light reset? If it comes up at the 12000km mark how does one get rid of it without dealer software?
On certain cars one can hold a button down and turn say an indicator or something, is it possible on the 1299

On previous 1199's the dealer plugs it in to the Ducati computer/service tool and shuts it - there is/was no way to shut it yourself - I doubt the 1299 allows you to either:rolleyes:

My Yahama dealer always included the first service with new bikes so when told that a fee was required for my first Ducati l negotiated that away in the price and an added promise to service the bike at that shop.

Fee for just an oil change is a swindle.

so what do you guys do? live with the service warning light? or does your dealer remove it for a lessor fee?
it would irritate me and I would need it off - not sure how other feel?

If you want it off....and are not getting the service done, just ask them to shut it - it wouldn't cost much, if anything - you could always put a piece of tape over it :) -- the service light however is there for a reason, why wouldn't you want the 12,000km (7500 mile) service done at the shop ?

I just paid $350 to MelilliMoto in Ocala, Florida for the first service on my 1299S. It stung but they are a really good dealership. I actually had a water pump leak which they fixed. The leak was covered under the warranty.
But, I remember way back when I had a 2000.5 Aprilia Mille R. I took it in for the first service to Honda/Aprilia of Jacksonville. To this day I swear I would win a bet by simply assuming they didn't even change the oil. They probably just shoved it in the back, or leaned it against one of the walls and stacked stuff on it, and 2 weeks later called and told me it was ready. Guess what they charged me for that service (and last). Seriously, guess! Over $500. Yep, I paid it and when the POS service writer said with gleeful enthusiasm, "Thank you for coming in Mr. Bankston." I said, "yep, it's the last time I'll be coming here." I lied. I went by Honda of Jax about 3 years ago to buy a can of Honda polish. I still get mad about that!!!
