I guess it depends on what your after. Let’s say you are a collector and you’re not going to ride it. Buy an SL. Let’s say you have disposable income and want the latest and greatest to go to bike nite and something to park next to the Lambo. Get the SL. If your going to track it and ride the .... out of it and you’re really after performance and nothing else, you buy the R. Throw the race exhaust on, light weight wheels, carbon body and tank and a good tune and you have an SL without the numbered top clamp or leather bound owners kit but basically the same bike and you have 40k left over. If it’s exclusivity you want, and you have SL money buy the F-18 or Redding’s bike or have SBU build you a one off with all the good stuff. Yep the V4 is exclusive but 499 other guys will have one and all the “exclusive” parts will hit the market a year later just like they did with the 1299SL hell there were 4 1299 carbon frames on eBay in the last 2 months. The swingarm is available and so are the wheels. If Ducati is going to keep their “limited” bikes limited, maybe do a bit better job of controlling the flood of parts to the market that makes them exclusive. Anyhow, the V4 is the top of the food chain in “showroom” bikes from a major brand for sure. I think the 100k is a big stretch compared to the R but I think all 500 are sold so, Nuff said.
