How much of a market is there for old race bikes, where do these end up, in a club championship or a collection?

Most likely a collector, i wouldn't want to show up to the track with a bike like that and not be super fast!

From what I have been able to gather there a few individuals who make some sort of arrangement with teams that do sell bikes and parts then they broker these things. Pretty tight knit network. Most of the modern day stuff I have seen, the bikes have restrictions on them with what the transferee can and can’t do and most I have seen have locked ECUs. From what I was told (not verified) the locked ecu means the bike was delivered setup and running but on a power restricted map. This bike is unlocked and comes with the Marelli software package so if you were so inclined to play with it, you could.

I guess it depends on what your after. Let’s say you are a collector and you’re not going to ride it. Buy an SL. Let’s say you have disposable income and want the latest and greatest to go to bike nite and something to park next to the Lambo. Get the SL. If your going to track it and ride the .... out of it and you’re really after performance and nothing else, you buy the R. Throw the race exhaust on, light weight wheels, carbon body and tank and a good tune and you have an SL without the numbered top clamp or leather bound owners kit but basically the same bike and you have 40k left over. If it’s exclusivity you want, and you have SL money buy the F-18 or Redding’s bike or have SBU build you a one off with all the good stuff. Yep the V4 is exclusive but 499 other guys will have one and all the “exclusive” parts will hit the market a year later just like they did with the 1299SL hell there were 4 1299 carbon frames on eBay in the last 2 months. The swingarm is available and so are the wheels. If Ducati is going to keep their “limited” bikes limited, maybe do a bit better job of controlling the flood of parts to the market that makes them exclusive. Anyhow, the V4 is the top of the food chain in “showroom” bikes from a major brand for sure. I think the 100k is a big stretch compared to the R but I think all 500 are sold so, Nuff said.

Oh and to be fair to all the 1299SL guys. They get a hall pass here. That bike is a freaking beast. It has some issues when flogged but it was not a 1299 base or S motor with a bunch of light weight body parts parts. That motor was specifically built for the SL (light crank, Ti rods, different heads, cams etc) The disservice came when Ducati pushed out the FE with the same motor and called it the 1299R and after that all the spare parts hit ebay through Tamburini. Same monkey business.

But does the IMU work. I joke I joke! I would love to own this bike. But alas I own what I can spend and still be married and have a home. And for what I have into #96 (endodoc knows). I could not be happier. She is a beast and she flies!!!

Blades bike is on another level. I’m working on some V4 projects and again, the V4 is is a great platform but I prefer the 99s. It’s just a different bike and way more bike even in stock form than I could ever out ride.
