Was it water or could you tell if it was coolant? If the guy did constant short trips and never changed the oil you might get that much water. The head gasket design on these looks pretty robust so I'd be surprised if this was head gasket related. Since you've been into the other motors you'll have no issues working on them. Like the late twins with smaller parts. Valve train is very testaretta esque with smaller parts. These are fun. Just rip when they're spooled up. Very seductive.
The radiator is full of water wetter, which I am a fan of, and use in my other bikes. Seems to do what it claims and keeps the temp down in my 1199s which runs hot with the tuning and exhaust. Before wetter, it was hard to ride when it gets hot outside. It looks like water to me, which would make me think it’s condensation but it’s a good bit if that’s the case. I’ll upload a photo and you can tell me what you think.

Mine has been draining overnight as well. I am also never in a rush when it comes to something like that. I’ve only ever seen water in the oil on this bike out of the three that I have and with the potential for there to be an issue with the water pumps, I’m looking closely.

The oil was changed in October, 500 miles ago at eurotek in okc. It had been sitting for a couple months and then brought to me. Maybe I’m overthinking it. The bike has never been tracked or ridden hard. I ordered a new water pump yesterday from Ducati Omaha. Three weeks until delivery. SMH! You’d think they would offer more support on things like that being as that their design has caused engine failure on so many bikes that they charge so much money for. It’s ......... Some of these things just seem par for the course with a Ducati

Seems like a lot of water for 500 miles. I took the water pump apart that came with the motor (14K) I have. It's a 19 so first revision I think. From looking at this one it would seem that it the pump would probably have to be run with a leak for a while to get water into the oil. Have to wash the grease out of the bearings in front of it first. If the case was over siliconed clogging the drain and then it started leaking this would happen way quicker. I'll post some pictures when its completely disassembled. The head gaskets are a 3 layer steel shim with a sort of metal o ring. The o ring brinells into both the head and deck a bit when the gasket is torqued. Motor would have to have been really hot to cause a leaking head I think. You may want to pressurize the cylinders and look for bubbles. I never see any water in the oil any of my bikes BTW.

Likewise. I’ve never seen water in mine and my bikes sit a lot and the temperature here fluctuates a lot. It was -3 yesterday morning, and next week highs in the 50s. It’s pretty crazy. All that said, I ride about 1000 miles a year and I do my own service…never seen water. I blew a head gasket on an old work truck about 20 years ago, carbureted 350 from the 90s and that was my first rebuild and the first time I saw the chocolate milk version of motor oil. When I saw water in this I had an oh .... type of moment. The new pump will be here soon. Apparently it was in stock in Italy and will be here sooner than I was originally told.

I would value and heed your opinion on this next question…

What type of sealant should I seal the new water pump with? They told me what type I should use, and I believe I have some leftover from changing the valve cover gaskets on my 1199s. However, I know others may have reasons for using a different type.

I haven’t looked at the fiche since I ordered the pump. When I pull that side cover off, will there be a green rubber seal that is countersunk into the casing like a clutch cover has? Or is it going to be another gasket that I will have to make with sealant?
 
there is no chance you got water in your airbox which entered the crank breather pipe? (i am assuming the crank breather is in the airbox)
Also is there any sign of oil in your coolant?

I can’t be certain of anything at this point. I haven’t dug that far into it. I am replacing the pump simply because of Murphys Law and it’s not going too terribly far into the engine. The air filter was also changed recently at the same time as the oil. Water could get in there pretty easily with the filter out and the lid open. I picked up the filter that @baggerman recommended in an earlier part of the thread so I will see if anything in the air box is suspect pretty soon.
 
Good choice going for the water pump my man. My first replacement item only lasted 4000 miles. Still can't believe these are not held in plentiful stock in countries and always seem to need to be ordered from Italy!

I shared the same complaint with Ducati Omaha, and also shared some of the same exact logic but it didn’t really make much of a difference. What we are thinking makes too much sense. It would be too much like right

I use oil resistant permatex black. Never had an issue. The side covers are not gasketed so more permatex. Be sparing with the permatex, a thin smear covering the face is enough. On the valve covers I glue the gaskets to the cover and then just grease the face that goes against the head. I ride about 15,000 miles a year. No water in the oil.

It’d be pretty tough to get water past the cyclone separator. I’m pretty sure the crankcase air comes in from the side of it so the water would have to take a 90º turn
 
What kind of valve kit do you use? Which Springs?
Sorry, I assume your referring to suspension?

I buy genuine Ohlins springs, ideally 10.5 front and 9.5 rear. But running 10 in the front until i get fixe the valving. This setup is for 95% track riding so its very stiff for the road. For my weight i would leave the springs standard if it were just for the road and use dynamic mode.
I am about 82KG (180lb) on a good day and the two tracks i ride at need a lot of breaking support.

I have not changed the valving as yet as the 23 forks are gas charged and i dont have the tools to do it yet. But will have them soon.
It wont be a valving kit it will just be replacing shims and i may use a different weight oil.

Every little bit helps. I’m always curious what others are doing. The suspension is something that I haven’t had a lot of hands on experience with. There isn’t a dealer or anyone to work on my bikes within a few hours, if I could get ahold of someone. So I do most things myself. I’m 185 without gear so this info is definitely useful. Thank you.
