Forgive me if this has covered but my searches didn't bring any viable results. I just got my R & installed the full system; everything went fairly smoothly as I am meticulous & took my time. However, when it came to fitting the mufflers (which is towards the final steps), they didn't line up with the mounting holes, especially towards the front small tabs where it attaches to the provided aluminum bracket. The mufflers were canted upwards a bit. As a result, I had to push downwards in order for the holes in said aluminum bracket and muffler tab holes to line up. I don't feel too comfortable straining the rubber mounts at the canister mounting points. Yes, I kept everything loose & adjusted each joint to try to align everything so everything jives, and all joints are fully seated. Basically my question is, has anybody experienced the mufflers/canisters not lining up precisely resulting in 'forced' mounting of fasteners, or did everyone's installation go perfectly? Thanks in advance...

Oh yeah, although it probably doesn't matter that this is on a 2014, there may be some differences in the exhaust kit: maybe because the revised heat shield design, the metal mounting bracket is different from the illustration in the instruction manual. Although the instructions illustrate where the adhesive-backed foiled fiberglass insulation/ heat shield pieces go as far as the gas tank and ecu, there is a crescent-shaped piece that is not shown in the instructions. Does anybody know where it goes? image.jpg

Goes on the inside of your fairing on the bottom right hand side nearest to your rear set .
You will see a rubber grommet on the header pipe that acts like a buffer between the pipe and the fairing . Same spot .

That's correct

I had all of the pipes jet-hot coated, which made it even harder. I could not get them aligned by myself, so I had the dealer finish it. I didn't want to see how hard they most likely had to pull on it... They had to curse at it a while from what I heard...

When I did mine, lining up the cans required a friends help. Just make sure the piping is seated as much as possible.

I had to have a friend push the hell out if the cans to align them, while I aligned the nuts to tighten them.

Muscling the cans was definitely part of the installation procedure. All fine now, with no adverse effects as of yet.

Thanks for the responses, guys truly appreciated! I feel much better knowing that it wasn't just me. I still remain a bit uneasy at the fact that the front grommets (at the front aluminum muffler bracket mount)is stretched, compressing upwards noticeably. Just hope it doesn't compromise something like breaking a pipe weld or destroy mounting points...

Shouldn't be like that . Sounds like the pipes are not fully seated .
I always like using a light smear of lube around the pipe to get them to slip into each other a little easier .
That grommet should have a aluminium insert in it ?

Yea, nothing bent on mine. Post a pic of what you're talking about.

So here's a bad phone photo, but it illustrates the basic situation: this is the left side front canister mount. You can see the aluminum bracket being pushed upwards distorting the rubber grommet. Well, you guys convinced me to take the bike apart once again & start from square one & refit the joints using some kind of lube. Hope it doesn't melt & stain the pipes...(what kind of lube should I use?). Thanks everyone for your help.

Btw, the photo was oriented incorrectly: left side of pic should be pointed upwards...(pic rotated clockwise 90 degrees)

Try some WD40. It will burn off (smokes for a few minutes) after you run it the first time.

What I did was rub down all of the visible areas on the pipe after install with WD40 to remove fingerprints. I didn't want them to burn into the pipe. Its now turning blue and purple, which is pretty cool.

As far as the bracket, It looks fine to me. If its all hooked up, and situated, Im sure with a few miles the pipes will find their homes.

Old trick

My y pipes seemed a bit too big for the slipons so i heated the pipe with a small torch so it could "expand" just a lil bit and it did the trick! :)
