How are your rear sprockets looking if you have the aluminum alloy? I put on about 5,000 miles since the swap and I'm thinking it's time for a new rear. I ordered one to have ready, and was wondering what everyone else's observations were.

Thank you!

Kyle

My AFAM AL rear looks good after 4500 miles and two track days.

That really doesnt look all that bad. IMO thats really minimal wear but some people like everything in like new condition so its up to you. If it was on my bike it would not be on my mind for at least another few thousand miles.

I will qualify my statement from my many years of riding/racing Motocross BTY

Yeah, I'm just looking to keep things in check. Thanks for the input.

Wear on aluminum sprockets is pretty variable on street bikes. I've worn them out in as little as 5000 miles (like you), yet I've had one on my Supersport for nearly 30,000 miles and it's still kicking.....of course, that bike only makes about 80 hp.

Regular lubrication of the chain makes a difference, too.

To me, a good compromise for a street bike is the Supersprox product. They offer a steel chain ring on an aluminum hub so you get the wear characteristics of steel in a lighter, more attractive package. If you buy a chain and both sprockets from them they offer a lifetime replacement warranty on the whole group!

I regularly, and religiously clean/lube the chain. I was going to get the SS sprocket for the carrier, but they no longer sell them at motowheels. Oh well...

Well, I've actually never worn one out. I usually sold it before I did.

How much life do you reckon is left on this one?

At least 10k miles (and that's a conservative estimate). AFAM AL sprockets have always outlasted stock steel counterparts in my experience.

AHHH OK!
Got it now. yes that would be ANOTHER swing and miss I suppose. These are the issues one deals with with a TBI. They told me it was not being able to process "context" or something like that. Thanks for helping out buddy!

That sprocket looks fine. I would however suggest you ensure to clean/lube your chain regularly and make sure you check chain tension on a regular basis as well. If your chain is out of adjustment it will wear the sprocket out faster as well. Made that mistake on my supermoto, blew through the 44 tooth aluminum rear on my race bike in 3 race weekends.

Got one on my S4RS and still looks like new
